The midfielder insists the Spaniard is like any other top-level trainer and admits he would like a more attacking role upon his return from injury

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has insisted that Pep Guardiola should be considered like any other top coach in Europe.

Guardiola is seen as one of the best coaches around following his success with Barcelona, guiding the club to 14 trophies between 2008 and 2012.

But Thiago has stressed that there is no special formula to the Spaniard's coaching methods.

"Guardiola really is like any other coach," Thiago was quoted as saying by Sport Bild.

"When things go well, he is satisfied, but he can get angry as well when things don't go according to plan.

"Pep can get upset just like anyone else. He is always fair, though, and treats all his players the same."

Thiago then went on to discuss his favourite position and revealed that he prefers a more advanced role to the position of holding midfielder.

He added: "I am happy to play in both positions, but a more advanced role where I play closer to the goal suits me best."

The Spain international recently underwent ankle surgery and will be out of action for at least eight weeks due to the knock, with Guardiola fearing it could be until halfway through November before the 22-year-old returns.

Bayern drew 1-1 with Freiburg on Tuesday and play Chelsea in the Uefa Super Cup final on Friday in Prague.

I hope to see Thiago in the AM role while Kroos stays back in a more CM role since is better in possession and has long range capabilities...

Agreed, and if Müller stays in his current form, it shouldn't be too hard for Thiago to become the preferred starter either. I know it's a controversial statement, but you have to agree Müller may have been our worst player the last couple of games.

Muller doesnt play well centrally he needs space to roam and cause chaos for the other team and he isnt technically gifted where he can break out of tight spaces in the midfield. If you watched the UCL final vs BvB you could see in the first 30mins Muller couldnt link with the midfield and it was clear we were missing Kroos at that time. I think Thiago suits that role a lot better than Thiago but im not saying i prefer Thiago over Muller.....

Hopefully :pep: listens to him. For me it is obvious that a more offensive position suits him better.

Time will tell I guess. I was against him coming, but can't deny he has the talent. We'll see what the future holds :)

I was strongly in favour of his transfer, and I predict that he'll return and hit form before the winter break. I have watched him in two U21 championships and reckoned him to be the best player in both - ahead of Mata and Shaqiri in the first, and he did actually win the award in the second.

I wouldnt expect him to be playing 90mins for at least another one or maybe two weeks. He has been out for quite a while...
