Stats, stats, stats... BORING!

I saw this season in 6 occasions how Lewy reacted in 100% chance. It was a pure circus.

I remember how much balls he needed to waist just to score 1 per match. 26 yo and still possesses poor finishing. Modern football can swallow and stand this, but I simply can't.

This is one great match and that's it. There still plenty of matches to show himself in these situations. I'll keep an eye on Lewy's body language and his efficiency, not stats.

Effenberg : “People who say that Lewandowski was a dodgy purchase have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to football,” he told Sky. “He is extremely important to the team.

“The charisma and quality that he had at Dortmund, he has at Bayern. The difference is that at the Allianz Arena he has three or four other world-class attackers alongside him.”

You're focusing on one specific skill. The stats you find boring give a better general picture. There is so much more to a striker than just finishing. He needs to run fast, unmark himself, position himself where the ball will arrive, vision to see teammates in good positions, passing, dribbling, etc.

Being a better finisher doesn't mean one is a better striker. We knew already before he joined us that Lewandowski doesn't possess the world's best finishing; yet he makes up for it otherwise.

Last but not least, if adapting was already challenging, it's even more challenging given the amount of injuries we've had this season and players being played all over the place.

Lewandowski is performing. But he has room for improvement.

I remember that Gomez brought us the final piece of treble.

Yes, but finishing must always be on top level for a TOP striker. Without that, he ain't that TOP, after all I told here few times that without that he'll never be considered as a world-class player.

MUTU wrote:Being a better finisher doesn't mean one is a better striker.

Yep, true! But without that as I said, he'll never be the best. Finishing must be always no. 1, then we can talk about what's better on this or that striker or why is this better or not. But without finishing, it's like I'm seeing attacking midfielder or winger, not a striker on his position.

It's because Bayern need to have everything in striker and that's what was missing very much. He must do everything what you mentioned at first, but killer instinct and shoot technique absolute world class. And that is something what's missing to Lewy or what Bayern also need to have in his own team. If he won't be that guy, then he should get competition and we'll see. Then Lewy will be forced to improve. Right now, he feels absolute no pressure to improve his qualities and everything stays on a good faith that he'll do it when it takes to.

You know what's the worst thing? Klopp got aware of this fact during the 2013-2014 and regret for Barrios' departure to China. Otherwise, Barrios would probably have played in 2012-2013 and in 2013-2014, maybe today.

Lewandowski sometimes really knows to cost a lot.

Lewandowski can do way better than this… I wanted him, but he's becoming a regret. I want him to do better than Mandzo, otherwise what's the point?
Mandzo was not Pep's favorite player in his last year here, but he still managed to do his work.

Lewandowski this season: 10 goals in 1558 minutes (Bundesliga)
Mandzukic last season: 13 goals in 1398 minutes

Mandzukic was clearly the superior striker after the same amount of games, but the difference is not that big especially when considering that this is Lewa's first season (compared to Mandzu's second) and that he was clearly not in top form for a long time. From matchday 23 till the end of the season, Mandzukic only managed 5 more goals. Lewandowski seems to have found his scoring touch recently so let's compare them at the end of the season. I bet that Lewa will have scored more goals than Mandzu did last season.

When Mandzukic is not finishing as clinically as he can and scoring with the chances he was given: He does the dirty work (by elbowing his way through defenders) so it's okay because you know he brought us the TREBLE!

Lewandowski, missing a few sitters, scored 12 goals, 7 assists: not enough. A striker needs to be scoring first. No. of silverware: 0.

Double standard or not? :coffee:

It may just be me, but I feel like Lewa has been quite good. I think due to his previous seasons he has much higher expectations in comparison to Mandzu but I feel he's been given quite a bit of unfair hate. He's given us a lot of flexibility upfront because he has (in my honest opinion) better dribbling and ball holding skills than Mandzu. Of course with Robben playing as well as he has been, Gotze even having an arguably better year than last season and the ability we have upfront, It would be quite hard to get as many chances to score. Although I agree that at times Lewa has been unable to finish chances which he should have for his caliber of a player, that could be a blessing in disguise as he has really been getting better gradually this season which is a positive sign as the second half of the season goes on :D

He needs to stop being so wasteful with the 100 percent chances. Right before Christmas there was a statistic published (which I unfortunately can't find anymore) who missed the most "big chances" (as in Opta) in the BuLi half season. Lewa was among the top 3 players (if you can call that "top"), with 6 missed big chances. Far too many when within the same period you've scored 7 goals.

Beyond stats, Bayern plays better with Lewandowski than with Mandzukic.

we'll see that by May ...
with Mandzu we won everything between 2013-2014 and a double last season 8)

Hope you are right - here we are all behind our team and no one wishes harm or wishes to do bad just for the sake to be proofed right - God forbids that...
