Be sold to Dortmund on a profit and then not play either?

Well... Rode was actually pretty decent at times...

Rudy has quietly been one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga this season. He's miles ahead of where Rode ever was.

Rudy is doing great at Hoffenheim like never before. I'm not sure he'll be just a reserve role. I think he possesses more than enough quality to play regularly in the Bundesliga.

Still, I'd opt for Sanches and Kimmich because these guys need to develop and the only way to achieve that is - play regularly.

And maybe the fact that they're both already better than him?!

Never thought the brass would see Sanches as a Xabi Alonso replacement...

Could very well all be tactics and politics...if we now say we don't have a direct substitute for Alonso, prices for CMs in the transfer market will go up as soon as we come knocking. By saying we're planning with Renato as his substitute, we're basically saying 'cool cool, we'd be interested in your CM and we can offer you a nice price. Nothing too flashy tho, as we're mostly already covered anyway.'

That's the spirit.

Kind of odd as I think most everyone assumed Sanches would be Vidal replacement.
With Rudy coming in as a midfielder and hearing that Javi will play midfield barring injury it seemed those two were our "Alonso replacements".

That being said, I think even the most adamant "Xabi haters" would concede that he was a truly world class player in his prime and many seem to just be complaining that he is past his prime/too old for his role now--but that in his day he was a top, top player.
With that in mind I don't think there's too many Bayern fans who would complain if Sanches became Alonso 2.0

This makes me feel a lot better about the current situation then

This sounds an awful lot like a typical haggling conversation in the Chinese market where I'm from..

Me at those kinds of markets

Me: "I'm mostly good, so X amount of money is as high as I'm willing to go"
Them immediately: "OK!"
Me: "...Damn it"

Problem with that is that Uli brought Javi into play. Kalle said Renato; and both mentioned Rudy and even Sule. I really don't think there's any interest for another Doppel-sechs.

Ancelotti has said Sanches won't go out on loan next season following Alonso's retirement,so i think he's going to start at least half of the games.
Renato-Vidal-Javi huh ?
