1.) ESPN is American
2.) Honigstein is German - and one of the best english-writing journalists around when it comes to Bayern and the Bundesliga in general.

I'm not saying I agree with this article in particular, but can we not instantly assume something is rubbish if it does not agree with our preconceived notions? (this is not specifically meant for you, more in general).

Honigstein's from Munich, more specifically, and a known Bayern fan unlike the rest of them ESPN bloggers. You don't have to be a respected world-wide journalist (he writes for English, American AND German media on a constant basis) to add two plus two and realize Pep was hired to bring in the European bacon "every other year" loosely, but at least once on his term. Specially after that 2 + 2 equals 17 million (per year salary.)

Good interview by Paul Breitner, he says among other things, that Guardiola will find the right time to extend his contract.

Guardiola will tour every club in Europe (maybe even other continents), train with them, some will even fly him in via their private jets and in the end, sign for Bayern...

Oh wait, that's Ødegaard.

He'll probably sign a one year extension.

a possible contract extension:

"We have time. My contract ends in one and a half years."

Ten bucks says he's signing a one year extension, goes on a sabbatical, lands in Manchester when his kids speak perfect English.

I hope MUFC bankrupts before he gets there.

His future is brought in question too often and IMO it would be good if he extended the contract even if he doesn't plan to stay... Cause everyone can smell that 'Has the clock begun ticking towards Pep' in the air and I don't know how healthy is that.
I believe that Pep had an effect in Jupp's last year...

I wasn't a big fan of him in the beginnings but I began to like him a lot this year.
I really don't think we can do better, or we'll be able to do better than him in the foreseeable future, so I really hope he extends.

Same, Barca have not even come close to finding a good replacement yet. I would hate to see Bayern go back to those Klinsman days....

There are many reasons why Pep may be interested in staying beyond the current 3- year contract.

Firstly, if he is being treated well and appreciated by the board, and working in an environment where he's not constantly dragged into boardroom conflict, that is a very big thing - not found at many of the alternative big clubs he could go to.

Secondly, if his wife and children are happy in Munich, he may not want to uproot them from the friends they've made, schools, etc.

Thirdly, he is unlikely to want to leave without winning the Champions League with Bayern at least once.

Fourthly, he may have the ambition to lead Bayern to a 'era of dominance", where the club is the undisputed top club in the world over a period of 3-4 years.

No, I think the odds are on him extending.
