Pep's Messi-worship is the one thing that really annoys me. But, according to Bild and TZ, he said this in a secret team-meeting. Either there's a mole on Säbener Strasse or the tabloids are just trying to stir s**t up.

On the positive side, he's taking the responsibility for team's performance.

Messiah :P

I don't blame him, Messi is arguably the greatest player ever.

SO what?

Inherent in that statement is, that he blames the team - again... But clearly, they do as he says already, or why else do we concede those ridiculous counter-attack goals every other game?
Also, Messi is a great player, but allowing one to do differently is bad for team chemistry... MEaning that that wouldn't work in most teams as well... I'm starting to think he likes Messi for more than soccer... :P :P
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

That's what any leader says to their unit. He already took responsibility for RM, he was proud of the team fight against Barca when half the team was gone anyway. If every player does what he says, inherent in that is that (as we already knew), is that ultimate responsibility lies with the manager for results on the pitch. But there is no profession where the subordinate is not also responsible for their own performance.

That doesn't mean he has to point it out so often. It was a big downside during the Barcelona matches. And it sure as hell doesn't sound nice when told to a world class player. Imagine you were Robben and Guardiola told you "You're great, but nothing compared to Messi. He outclasses you".
Being so humble and bowing down to a mere human, which, after all, is just ONE player, is far from being a quality.

Well put like that, you're probably right, but again, as MillaMjau precised, it was a private meeting, and we don't know how it was conducted, so I won't judge something solely based on journalists reports.

As if it was any better, told in a private meeting :P

From the press-conference:

I'm really not even sure why he felt the needed to drop that in there when commenting on a player who has nothing to do with Messi, in a press-conference, that again has nothing to do with Messi or Barcelona.

You know, someone should tell him that people have won CL and World Cups without Messi in their team, sometimes beating the Messiah on the way as well.

Everyone knows Messi is the best player currently playing (Ronaldo pre-1999 injury without question was the best) and that includes the Bayern squad so even if it was private I don't understand what is the point of reiterating it to your players? I meant once was enough, it's needless to keep on repeating it. I wouldn't question Pep's professionalism and I think he's committed to Bayern but his ceaseless fawning is getting on my nerves.

SKYBundesliga is having a field day about the messi comments.
On the panel which is also composed by Markus Merk and Ballack there is an old guy (I think he is a former National Player) who was fuming at Pep saying he should know what kind of World Class he has in his roster... Mostly are all WOrld Champs with record of goals in the WC and UCL - Neuer Mueller, Robben , Lahm Lewa etc...
=D> to the old guy (sorry I forgot his name)

This is really not important, what matters is how the team plays and performs on the pitch, we should elevate the debates and do not spend days analyzing and scrutinizing every little word, every little phrase Pep "allegedly" pronounces.
