I checked his bio after reading the news on uefa.com
I wasn't aware that he played most of his career in Switzerland.
What an amazing and intelligent man - while playing football he continued his studies and graduated in Mathematics.
Go and tell any current player to do the same... =D> =D> =D>

I don't know anything about him as a player, but as a coach that intelligence was surely reflected in his achievements.

Ferguson,Heynckes and now Hitzfeld 3 legends out of football in one season,we could expect that because the time has come but I will miss them especially SAF & The General because of their HISTORIC battles.

I will never forget the day he left Bayern... He cried so much  It was so emotional. On that occasion Kahn also played his last game for us and Referee Markus Merk refereed his last game.

I hope Shaqiri and Hitzfeld do very well in the world cup.
I rate the Swiss national team highly - it really is no fluke that they got to 7th in the rankings in October to get seeded. I'm sure there youthful and energetic presence in Brazil will surprise some people since I see them making a good run in the tournament. Possible for them to finish first and fight their way into the quarter final. He's a manager that knows how to win cup games, I'm sure Ger General will get the focused and ready and the flair of the team will come out naturally. Alas, like many national teams their defense can't cope/are unproven against world class attackers. #-o

I would like to see Shaqiri go far with Switzerland as they are a team that can surprise you if not taken seriously

Yesterday I came across a video of the 2001 Bundesliga. Naturally it reminded me of Hitzfeld. :)

Personally I think Switzerland have a good chance of making it out of the group.

Ehhhhhhhh, my dear Ottmar... I still remember you when you were coaching Dortmund and moved to Bayern where you wrote the best pages of your life and Bayern's history, too. Time is really flying so fast...

Thank you for everything you gave to football world, you're one of the greatest ever. =D>
