Niklas Tarnat

Niklas Tarnat, son of former Germany international and FC Bayern left-back Michael Tarnat, is playing for FC Bayern U19s this season. In fact, he is playing against Arsenal in the UEFA Youth League at the moment. He joins Steeven Ribery (brother of Franck), Lucas Scholl (son of Mehmet), Gianluca Gaudino (son of Maurizio) and Felix Götze (brother of Mario) in the list of up-and-coming related players in our club.

I have to wonder... How many of them play for Bayern on merit and how many because of their last names? :-/

Very valid point, but then again half of the working population get jobs because of some sort of network or family connection, and generally things turn out fine. With these young guys, even though their last name definitely played a huge part in their recruitment, we know that the genes of a great player are definitely somewhere in their bodies regardless of how they'd turn out, and that saves us from scouting. Can't hurt to have a bigger talent pool.

What position does Niklas play, by the way? We're not exactly short on young talented left-backs.

Also, becoming a pro is not talent only, it's also attitude and ability to adapt and adjust... And these kids lnow that from firt hand... There are many incredibly talented players that never made it big and some with few talent that did...
