KHR says Reschke is needed in the scouting role and he has been instrumental for the club. He is not an option to replace Sammer.

On r/fcbayern, someone posted translations from an invterview Reschke had with 11 Freunde recently. Interesting points in here:

-It is not only important to buy new players and to scout them, it is equally important to bind star players and players with perspective to the club, at the right time. Once in a while a Transfercoup would do no harm as well.

-The playing time which leads to success is completed by 20 players. Benatia as the 19th got only 24%, Badstuber and Rode as the 2 players behind Benatia just 12% and 10%. Thus the optimal squad would be 22 players + 2-3 interesting young ones, because too many stars could endanger the structure behind it.

-Brandt, Öztunali and Bellarabi were bought by Leverkusen for €617000 - many other clubs could have afforded them but lacked the courage to do so. The market value of them has multiplied itself by more than one hundred.

-Difference to Leverkusen: Reschke doesn't lead the negotiations alone, KHR, Sammer, Dreesen and the head coach are involved as well.
It was a pleasure to work with Sammer. Reschke sees him as detail oriented and keen to debate. Without him the club still needs to bring in 6-7 star players or the one talent.

-Sanches had been first spotted in September 2015 at a U19 game between Benfica and Atletico in the Youth League and has been on Bayern's radar ever since, even though Sanches had not been with Benfica's first team yet. Coman had his final assessment/valuation during the U19 Euros in Greece last year and was deemed good enough to play as one of Bayern's wingers.

-Many clubs still see scouting as not that important. There will be a market for scouts/those who plan the squads soon enough, with the likes of Sven Mislinkat (Dortmund) or Laurent Busser (Leverkusen) or Marco Neppe (Bayern).

-Alternatives to Hummels have been discussed: Bonucci, Varane and Ramos, who would not have been available and Hummels had been the most interesting option anyway. As important for the defense were the contract extensions of Alaba, Boateng and Neuer. (Müller is mentioned as well.)

-Pep changed his view on football – Reschke speaks about how detail oriented and obsessed Pep is and which things he watches out for, like the line of gaze/direction of view when the player receives the ball.

-He knew what Pep had planned for the pre-season match against AS Rom and was excited being able to watch from the stands knowing what would happen: who runs where and how every player knew exactly what to do on his position, similar to Ancelotti.

-Reschke had to bring in fast and explosive wingers – they analyzed the market 4-5 times, watched matches to get cross-comparisons between the players and settled on Costa and Coman.

-He only watches games live and visits up to 150 a year.

-Basic requirements for new signings are tempo, skill, understanding of the game and the mentality. He names Kießling as an example.

-Question: Did you have to convince Pep of Vidal? Answer: At the end of the season Pep said Vidal is a fantastic player.

-It was Reschke who arranged the meeting between Tuchel and Pep. He knows both and knew they think highly of each other. Reschke was enthralled with how they spoke about football and Pep mentioned that Tuchel should be his successor at Bayern which almost resulted in Reschke going on about that Tuchel will be the new coach at Dortmund (this was before the 2015/2016 season).

-He does not want to be a public figure of Bayern, because it would hinder his work in the stadiums/ during matches.

Kießling? What the **** Michael?!

Also, am I the only one not getting that Sammer part about the star players and talent?

I think (but I'm not sure) he meant that Sammer was often decisive and if it weren't for him they'd still be discussing whether or not to sign certain players. I'm basing this on the post though. I haven't seen the original.

Sane is nothing close to a "sure thing", even Gotze was a better bet and we all saw how that worked out...

Very interesting article... Reschke wanted Coman and Costa during his time at Neverkusen according to Neverkusen sporting manager Jonas Boldt... and it looks like Reschke is a huge fan of Julian Brandt!

Very good interview with Reschke (use the Google Translate button if you don't speak Spanish, it's still a good read). Gives you some insight in how we work and what we think in the transfer market.
