I am happy for him. If he keeps it up and manages to handle the pressure, we may even see him in the national team one day.

Who knows? He's unlucky to be playing at a time when Germany has a good number of great GKs though... Adler, Neuer, maybe even Kraft.

Me too. But last spieltag was very bad for him, 6 goals. Ufffffff... :) :?

Why he should be unlucky? After half a year he finally found a club where he can turn a new page in his carrer. Maybe still exist potential which he can and prove himself that he isn't just an avarage GK who was a talent since he came in Bayern. :| I think there is still a lot of time for him, we will see what is gonna happen with him. :|

According to kicker, former Bayern München goalkeeper Michael Rensing, who has played the last year and a half at 1. FC Köln, is headed to Bayer Leverkusen as a backup to young Bernd Leno. Rensing, 28, will sign a one-year deal for Die Werkself, most likely pushing German-American keeper David Yelldell further back in Leverkusen’s goalkeeping hierarchy. With the Billy Goats set at the position after inserting 19 year-old Timo Horn in the number one spot, with fellow 19 year-old Marcel Schuhen as his backup, the move eliminates Rensing’s estimated 80,000 euros/monthly wage bill. Rensing was told at the end of May by Sporting Director Frank Schaefer that he should find a new club following the Billy Goats demotion to the second Bundesliga.

Poor bastard. To end up as backup to Bernd Leno...

I still think Bayern are to blame for not loaning him out before Kahn retired. He could have had a much better career that way, I think.

I dunno, in the end we ended up with Neuer, so... can't really complain.

idk why any goalkeeper would sign a contract to be a back-up cause usually regular gks are hard to shake from the first team.

Tell that to Butt. He signed a deal fully knowing he'd be a backup player and ended up playing in a Champions League final.

Because Butt was initially brought as a backup to Rensing. After a disastrous season with Rensing in goal, Klinsmann finally decided to play Butt against Barcelona in the Camp Nou, a game which we lost 4-0. Klinsmann had said that it was just for that game, but he played Butt again in the next game. Klinsmann was fired a couple of weeks after that. Heynckes took over for the last few games of the season and iirc kept playing Butt, before Van Gaal came, who kept faith in Butt (until he started playing Kraft in the second half of 2010/11).

Actually Van Gaal tried a new experiment with Rensing for the first games, but Rensing failed again so once again Butt's came to the rescue.
