Goal.com seems to like talking about Gomez today.

Well, I hope he breaks the record, that's for sure. He's not a player with whom injuries seem to be a constant thorn, not to jinx it.

Well, I would be happy if Gomez breaks it. He's a Bayern player and it would shut all his critics up. But Muller is a legend. He deserves to keep that record.

I'm sure Müller would love to see his records broken by Gomez rather than... ugh... Huntelaar.

Gomez is now the second highest ranked player in the Castrol Edge Rankings, after Lionel Messi. He has now overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo! Congratulations Mario! =D>

Of particular note is this paragraph: Bayern’s Gomez (2nd) has scored an impressive 36 goals in 33 games over the last 12 months and is rapidly becoming one of Europe's most feared strikers. Despite his success, Gomez is the sole Bundesliga representative in the Castrol EDGE Rankings top 10.

Top goal keeper, Willy Cabaellero. Spare me the insanity, please. Neuer, NEUER, NEUER.
I've helped bring home a few titles. There is no reason to get nervous. It's a long season, these things are a matter of patience

[Offtopic ( )]
I don't think the Castrol ratings have much credibility for anyone other than the hardcore Barza followers TBH. It is just too inconsistent. Berbatov better than Sua'rez?
God, are you there? Shut up son, Gómez is scoring!

Gerd Mueller: "I trust Mario to break the record goals in a season at some point," said the "Bomber" to the "Bild" newspaper (Sunday edition). Above all, "because the double man-marking of the past no longer exists."

Gerd Mueller's record stands at 40 Bundesliga goals in a season. So far, Gomez has 16 goals this season, which is the same amount of goals that Mueller had during the winter break in his record-breaking season.

I don't belive that Gomez is going to equal with Gerd or even surpass him. If he have had 20 goals at this moment, maybe he would, but with this it looks much tougher.

If he continues to be the main contributor to Robben's confidence rebuilding effort fund yes he might let that one go. Though it looks like Robben is on his way back to previous hole drilling levels.

I'm more than happy with the current Gomez' contribution. At least, it will be excellent to see a BL player with over 30 scored goals. I'm sure that Gomez ambition is to raise the last season number of 28 BL goals and get on his sheet 31 or even more.

Think Gomez has improved his all round game which is crucial to how Germany play but not so much Bayern, though, this can only benefit us. I love him, I have defended him to the hilt which has led to many an argument and I love the fact he constantly proves me right.

He will at some stage break Gerd's record.

Notice that Gerd Muller didn't say he'd break it this season, but at some point in his career, and I think he will. Gomez has improved a lot in the last 12 months, especially since Heynckes's arrival. He is a very different player now. He is still mostly a goal scorer who relies on his team-mates hard work, but he works for the team too now. I do think that he is currently the best real striker in the world.
