Former Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann claims Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer is too inconsistent to be absolutely world-class
The former shot stopper believes that the national team's current No. 1 is better than most of his colleagues, but isn't there just yet

Former Germany international Jens Lehmann has voiced his opinion that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is one of the best around, but added that he's not world-class.

Neuer moved from Schalke to Bayern in the summer transfer window and has made somewhat of a shaky start to life in Bavaria.

"Manuel looks world-class compared to most of the other goalkeepers out there. However, he is still too inconsistent to be absolutely world-class. He needs to improve that area of his game," Lehmann said to AZ.

"There is a lot of pressure on him to perform because of the fans' protests. You will only get better if you manage to deal with that though."

Neuer will return to Gelsenkirchen on Friday evening with Germany's national side for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Austria.

More hate from Lehmann, but this does not make any sense at all. It clearly shows lack of logic. He says that Neuer is one of the best GKs in the world, but not world-class. He cannot be amongst the best if he is not world-class, which means that probably no one fits the "world-class" category in Lehmann's mind. Logic would tell you that if no one is good enough, then the world-class would be considered as the best of the lot.

Anyway, who is he to talk about inconsistency? He spent the entire 2005/06 seasons without conceding a single goal in the CL, then proceeded to get red-carded in the final, Arsenal eventually losing said final, and also him conceding vital goals against Argentina and Italy in the WC.

If you ask me he's a little jealous that Neuer at 25 is better than he ever was

The key here lies in the fact that Neuer is in Bayern. I'm sure Lehmann thought Neuer was world class when he was still at Schalke.

After seeing the NT game against Austria, one tends to agree that our new defense pays a large part of that bill. =D>

So we spend 20m € for a goalkeeper we don't even need?

It is very entertaining to watch him as he tries to always keep level with the ball while we are in possession (so basically the entire game). So he goes from the left side of the 16 meter box to the right side and so on ... until the referee ends the game.

But I'm certain Neuer will have lots of opportunities to show his quality during the next two weeks when we play against Villareal, Schalke, Leverkusen and Manchester'City.

As expected he was there when we needed him. Especially his footwork was impressive when he blocked that ball between his legs like a hockey player.

After the game... :)

It is because Neuer is 6ft 4.
Imagine if she interviewed Van Buyten, she would need two boxes
