So Jupp says he doesn't have and doesn't want a nutritionist in the staff, because he wants food "to taste well".

Schubeck will be pleased.

That means after 1.2 seasons with a nutritionist recommending tortellini they're now without a nutritionist altogether. Another step back to the roots.

That's going to be fun if Tuchel really takes over in summer. Vegan Schweinshaxn incoming. A real cultural shock that'll be.

Squad is totally different to say starting lineup.

Our bench is much better than what we had in 2013, but the best XI.... Just wait to see..

Jupp Heynckes lives in a Munich hotel these days. He goes to his Bayern office at Säbener Straße at 7:15am and leaves at 8:30pm [TZ]

IMO he was just trying to boost the team's morale

The team is far from the one in 2013. Especially midfield and wings.

Only ‘outer’ positions were better in the 2013 (backs and wings).

The squad is superior. The starting 11 is not, at least up front. With the right defensive tactics, we would be better in defence.

I think 2013 team was better in everything

Squad
We had depth in EVERY position. Mandzukic, Gomez and Pizarro... now it's only Lewy

Starting 11
The only player from Bayern 2017 that would make the starting lineup of that one in 2013 is Lewandowski. Not even Hummels could bench 2013 Dante. We still have some players from that year, but they were in better form back then

Motivation
Heynckes needed one year to figure out our strongest team, and also the team was ultra motivated after Finale Dahoam.

Chemistry
After some issues that the likes of Robben, Ribery etc had the previous year, the team was a unit and everyone rowed in the same direction. Everyone seemed to be happy and you could feel it in every match

I would argue that's actually the only position in which we had better depth.

GK: we had Starke, same as now together with Ulreich.
LB: Bernat > Contento
CB: Sule (+ Javi if we consider him a CB) > Van Buyten. Badstuber was injured. In this case our starters are also better. Dante was very good that season, but he's no Hummels.
RB: Lahm > Kimmich, but we are not feeling Lahm's loss as much as I thought we would because Kimmich is so great. Rafinha is still the backup.
CM: Luiz Gustavo and Tymoschuk. Rudy is better than Tymo. Gustavo is probably better than Tolisso... but it depends on whether we consider Martinez a starter or not. If Martinez is a backup, then he is better than Gustavo. We now also have Vidal, whom I consider comparable to Schweinsteiger (although maybe not in that year).
LW: Ribery has declined, but Coman is miles ahead of Shaqiri.
CAM: Kroos or Muller, vs Thiago or Muller. Not much difference.
RW: Technically our backup was Robben. At the end of the season when he ended up a starter, we had no backup for him. Now we have James.
ST: as you said, no debate there.

Prime Schweinsteiger with prime Robbery in the same staring 11 is unmatched guys.
As a unit we were better and our three individuals who were pulling the strings were at their prime.

Vidal is excellent in his good days but in this system and style he ain't equal to Basti. Unbelievable consistency and commanding.
Ribery is not half the player he was, the first defender marking him was just for the show for the Ribery of 2012-13 , unstoppable.
Robben is still good and can decide matches but not as fast and agile like 2010-2014 era with his lethal shots and Bolt sprints.

You can't always go toe-to-toe because many things matter, Boateng is x2 better than he was, Hummels is better than Dante, Neuer is Neuer and Lahm was more than great but as a RB can't pull the strings or be decisive in almost every game. Kroos-Thiago comparison is almost equal, no big differences but still the trio I wrote TOGETHER in their prime is beyond fantastic. Having Robbery in the field you neutralize your opponents full backs because they won't push or make runs risking being in a 1v1 situation with one of our winger demons. Look the games in 2012 and 2013 how they tried to lock us down, their full backs stayed on the ground double or triple the wings. Schweinsteiger put Real Madrid's (prime) midfield on the ropes AT BERNABEU on his own, he could destroy any midfield in his best day and still distributing the ball calmly with no mistakes with 90% accuracy. The guy went on war in WC2014 as a holding MF in the final rescuing almost every ball, c'mon when Schweini went on godlike mode the team was like having an extra player on the field literally even if he tried to get a bad positioning it would be good but just not perfect as usual.

It's unfair for any of their successors, the original can't be matched, you can get close but not equal to them and personally I think that even being close to that team we can still go through the final, they were so damn good.

with Kroos and M.Gomez...

vs

with Vidal, Tolisso, Rudy, James

today we have more options but the 2013 starting 11 were better .

We can say that Bernat is better than Contento and that Coman offers probably more to this team than Shaqiri did in 2013. I agree with that

But read my original quote

YlonenXabi wrote:We had depth in EVERY position

Having Bernat or Contento in the team won't make any difference. Having Courtois, Oblak and Neuer in the same team and no backup striker won't make any difference either.

2013's Super Bayern was perfectly balanced in all positions.

Neuer
played everything and Starke did well as backup

Lahm, Boateng, Dante and Alaba were brilliant. Van Buyten did well too when we Boateng was in poor form. Rafinha helped as well.

Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez bossed all aspects of the midfield. Best CM duo we could've gotten. Tymo and Luiz Gustavo were always solid and Kroos did great until his injury

Robbery at their best + good old Mueller. It can't get any better than that. Shaqiri did a good job when he was given the chance

Mandzukic, Pizarro, Gomez...

It was the perfect squad with the perfect tactics and most of our key players at their prime.

We could argue if Tolisso, Coman, Rudy etc are better than Luiz Gustavo, Coman, Tymo... but any player from Jupp's Super Bayern was solid at the very least on every game

And I fully agree with what Achilles said (except for the Schweini bossing the midfield in Madrid, as it were Kroos and Gustavo + Robbery who destoyed their midfield. Schweini had just returned from injury and was in poor form)
