So he didnt have too many option for apply the rotation concept as he have right now, but what I remember very good of Heynckes is that he never doubt about who must be the players to begin the important champions league games, no like Ancelotti that need hours before the game to make his final decision.

He did rotate more than what we think.

In 2012/13 :

CB :
Van Buyten played 1910 minutes
Boateng played 3340 minutes
Badstuber played 1440 minutes
Dante played 4000 minutes.

MF :
Luiz Gustavo played 2030 minutes
Javi Martinez played 3100 minutes
Schweinstieger played 3670 minutes
Kroos played 2860 minutes
Tymoshchuk played 900 minutes

AT :
Shaqiri played 1900 minutes
Robben played 2200 minutes
Ribéry played 3230 minutes
Müller played 3570 minutes
Gomez and Pizarro both a lot injured played 2300 minutes
Mandzukic played 2850 minutes

Where he did not rotate at all :

RB :

Lahm 4100 minutes
Rafinha 750 minutes

LB :
Alaba 3200 minutes
Contento 650 minutes

If he did rotate it is also because of injury, which we'll get also this season for sure.

Rotation is important but not as what Ancelotti did in this season.

Heynckes always had his eleven players in mind for top games in champions league, not as Ancelotti who rotate extremely that bench Boateng, Hummels, Robben, Ribery and substitute James against PSG.

Apart of his relationship with some players, Ancelotti always show fear to show to his squad who are the XI important players, in contrast Heynckes always showed who are the ones who will really play for the top games.

As far as consistency in lineups go Heynckes is definitely the winner out of him, Pep, and Carlo. I am sure he will rotate but he does have a fixed preferred starting 11, which Pep did not. With Ancelotti it is interesting because the moment he started rotating more he lost the plot entirely.

The idea of rotation is to keep fresh the legs of the important players for the top games, Heynckes did it, Ancelotti didn't.

Ancelotti rotated, his rotation was just retarded.

I believe that Hoeness will try to keep Heynckes for another season if he repeat the european achievement he got in 2012 or 2013 season, but this will also depend in the phisical condition of Heynckes after 8 tough months of football.

Also I will not be surprise to see a inmediate positive change in the team performance after what I saw 8 years ago, when Heynckes took a totally dead team left by Klinsmann and obtain 13 points of the last 15 in Bundesliga, playing good football, for secure a champions league spot in the next season.

We have to understand him, its not easy to asume high responsibilities in just short period of time.

He was in calm, resting and from nothing, a call pone bring him back to the football war! Is not easy those huge changes in short time.
