I am wondering when, if ever, was Heynckes' team last eliminated from the Champions League. He hasn't since joining Real Madrid in 1997, but what about before that?

Happy B-day Jupp!!! He is getting old, but would like him to stick around for a few more seasons, as he seems physically capable of it -- but such a lengthy and illustrious career, I can see why he would want to retire as not being as hungry as a younger coach. Hopefully we win the CL and that would be an amazing thing toward the end of his career.

Happy Birthday! :)

I would like him to stay for one more season, maybe even 2 more, but I think that if we win the CL and he wishes to retire while on top, we should let him do so.

Don't worry, Osram will stay next season and maybe longer. There is still unfinished job in Bundesliga and Heynckes knows that he can't disappoint himself by not winning the championship. 8)

I would've wanted him out even had we won tonight (as I've probably said quite a few times for now).

I don't think it's a must to replace him. I believe we can do well with him next season. However if it were up to me I think I would replace him too. We can do well with him but we can do better with someone else.

I like Jupp Heynckes but it was an appalling decision to take Muller off and he did it because he thought the win was in the bag. So much for him not taking it for granted being the favourites.

the same kind of a mistake hitzfeld made in 99'...

But Jupp is too oldschool, we need someone who can lead us to new era... someone with a fresh perspective. and BTW ULI has become and absolute burden for bayern.

Don't point the finger at Heynckes. He organised a makeshift defence that allowed Chelsea just two chances in 120 minutes and created multiple chances. It really wasn't his fault that the players choked when faced with clear opportunities. In fact, he should be honoured for taking us so far.

at last some sensible talk towards jupp. not to mention that we were coming into the match with the ghost of the pokal past.. muller sub was costly but understandable

The Mueller substitution was fair. Heynckes actually tried to shore up the defence. Had he not done the sub and Chelsea scored, you would be blaming him for not putting out van Buyten to defend against their only corner, because he's so good in the air and he'd have definitely gotten to that ball in time. But, he didn't.
