Disappointed because of his potential, but I respect his decision. It is not all about playing for the bigger team.

I hope he does really well for the USMNT.

This could be very good business-wise and fits the Bayern plans to expand its image in the USA.

That's really too bad to here. He grew up playing German club football and to waste that development by playing for another country sucks a bit. But I understand perfectly that dual citizenship can be complicated, but it's just the fact he was developed under the German system not the American.

These topics of nationality can be a bit personal at times. As long as he is a success at Bayern doesn't really matter what NT he plays for.

I don't get it... Green is an American born kid and he should play for someone else? Well, if Americans are so proud of their country, here weren't any doubts - US national team colors are what Green truly sees in his soul.

All in all, let's be honest and USA is not Brazil from 1998-2006 where they could have made 3 superb national teams of large amount of quality Brazilians during that period.

I salute Green's decision to play for his homeland unlike the best example in Diego Costa who turn his back to own country even though Scolari wanted him in Selecao.

Not that simple...he was born in the US to an American father and German mother, but he grew up in Bavaria where he played club football basically his whole life. As far as any evidence shows he never played football in the US.

This could prove to be a great marketing move in the long-term. As the club is trying to gain more market in the US, having a Bayern player in the USMNT is going to be huge.

English clubs have always had the advantage in the American markets but with Green things may change :P

He was born in America but moved to Germany when he was 2 years old. On top of that his mother is German. This makes him more German than Klose and Podolski. Blood-wise, he's half and half but I'd say where you lived in the last 16 years of your life is more important than where you lived in your first two (which you probably don't even remember anyway).

He's not yet capped. He's just going to attend another camp so hold your horses. :P

Julian Green has played competitively for Germany U19. At that stage, a player is not tied to a nationality as per FIFA rules but is allowed a one-time change of nationality. To do this, the player needs to fill in a form. Green submitted this form yesterday. Between the time the form is filled in and the time it is fully processed, the player is not allowed to play for either nationality. If it's processed before the US' next friendly, he'll be eligible to play. One thing is sure: Julian Green cannot play for Germany ever again, providing that FIFA regulations remain unchanged.

Yes he has played in the youth NT but the article has no mention that Green has officially chosen US. All it says is if he'll be chosen for the WC squad, he'll take it. And Klinsmaan says Green's place isn't guaranteed. As I understand it, nothing is official yet.

On the contrary, it's official that he has chosen the US. As per FIFA regulations, he is now no longer eligible to play for Germany or any other nation. He can only ever play for the US. That means that if he grows to become a big player, the US NT stands to gain. Whether or not he plays for them in the coming World Cup is irrelevant at this point: it won't be the World Cup that would tie him to the US NT; he's already tied to them now.

If you want him to play for Germany, you have two (unlikely) hopes: that his one-time nationality change is rejected for some inexplicable reason, or that FIFA change their regulations.
