It was Pep's decision, he even made a phone call to him, convincing him to come here.
What a wonderful signing it has been, I hope he stays with us for many years, one of many young talents we have.

That's funny, because a lot of users here wanted him out after just 2 preseason games, claiming he was worse than Contento :)

Where would we be without him? I was skeptical in the beginning, but to think since Alaba has been injured, we could have been without this guy... Well done to Sammer and Pep for getting this done.

Great player, really impressed in his last few games as well when he was really unlucky not to score against Augsburg (I think). He could also have a bigger number of assists if our players had finished off some of those chances he put on a plate for them.

Plus Neuer will forever love him for that goal-line clearance

Question: Where is he gonna play when all are back?
He deserves to play but where? Ahead of who?

We'll, I think this won't be a problem too soon.
With Schweinsteiger's recent injury (I hope it is nothing cerious) I think Alaba will play in midfield, leaving the LB spot open.
When Alaba is pushed back to LB, Bernat will get some time on the bench, or maybe at the LM position.

He already played with both Alaba and Ribery fit if I'm not mistaken. There's a new player analysis in spielverlagerung.de about Alaba and it discussed how Bernat (and Alonso) enabled Alaba's new box to box libero role to be possible.

In terms of alternatives to Ribery, he was the first choice than Shaqiri.

I have a feeling that sooner or later someone else is gonna get axed... hope it's not one of your favorites if you have any.
We have too much quality choices, too good to be true.

Alaba and Bernat are Bayern's future on the left, we can't afford to let either of them go

I can see him playing instead of Gotze to be honest, for those worried about where he'll fit in. Either way there'll be rotation and unfortunately, probably more injuries.

Left on the bench in the Euro qualifier today against Tymoshchuk's Ukraine in favour of Jordi Alba. It's half time, perhaps he'll make an appearance later.

Bernat came on for Alba in the 78th minute as Spain held on to their 1-0 scoreline.

Bernat will be in the starting eleven against Netherlands as Alba will return to his club side Barcelona for further tests on a thigh injury picked up in the win over Ukraine.
