don't worry we will lose Gaudino too...
I cannot understand the '' taking his place'' ; can't they both be retained ? or there is a 25men squad rule? Is it this the reason by any chance?

^^ There are only so many "young talents" Bayern can accommodate in the first team squad for any particular area of the field. The "young talents" for central/defensive midfield seem to be Hojbjerg and Kimmich for the forthcoming season. It adds up, but I'm sorry for Gaudino.

There is also Alonso's place...

I can't see Alonso being counted in among the "young talents", although he may be of a different opinion on that subject. :-)

Most squads will try to have a mix of established professionals and emerging young talents for each area of the pitch, but there is a clear limit to how many talents they can accommodate. Generally it would be just 1 per area, occasionally 2, but almost never more, unless there is a complete rebuild of the team taking place. In central/defensive midfield they established professionals seem to consist of:
- Alaba
- Alonso
- Lahm
- Schweinsteiger
- Rode

Possibly, depending on their utilisation next season, also:
- Alcantara
- Bernat
- Martinez
- And the other big guy with the beard who is back from loan and injured again.

So Kimmich and Hojbjerg are coming into a crowded space. Realistically, Gaudino had to be outstanding, rather than good, to have any chance of playing next season. And he does need regular game time to progress.

As an aside, would anyone care to put a percentage on how much playing time Kimmich will have in central or defensive midfield next season?

I have a feeling that JM will be used in defence... Alonso will hopefully be most of the time warming his a$$ therefore Bastian, Hojbjerg, Thiago and Rode will be the ones to marshal our midfield.
Oh I've forgot Lahm and Alaba... I always forget that they are also mid fielders...
we may play 3-3-3-1

Boa - JM - Ben

Lahm - Bastian - Alaba

Mueller - Thiago - Goetze

Lewa

Hojbjerg and Rode the subs...

No Kimmich at all then? And no Alcantara, Robben or Ribery?

Guys I appreciate the discussion, it's just not fit for this thread. May I recommend the tactics thread instead?

Sorry about that, particularly the percentages question which I've now edited out. I thought I'd retained enough about Kimmich in my posts to keep it relevant.

He will wear the number 32 shirt as shown on Bayern's player list.

Interestingly, he's also listed as defender.

Did he train with the team today? Or is he still on vacation after the U-21 Euros?

You mean the tournament that just ended a couple days ago, months after we announced his signing?
