Anyone care to comment on this? Looks like he is quite sure the Club is not liable for the transfer.

Probably we will never know for sure. KHR said (http://www.fcbayern.telekom.de/en/news/ ... /36655.php):

The capture of the 1.90 metre defensive midfielder had been “very complicated, because Athletic Bilbao refused to cooperate from the very first day," revealed FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, “so we're even more delighted now that Javi Martinez has finally joined us. We've had tax and legal problems to solve over the last few days, but fortunately we've succeeded."

All formatting changes are ours. This is an unofficial translation.
Javi Martínez pays his recession clause.

At 20:15 hours on August 29th the LFP has certified to Athletic Bilbao that Javier Martinez Aguinaga has completed with the requisites necessary in the normative applicable for the valid unilateral resolution of the work contract that bonded him to Athletic [Bilbao] Club, handing over the indennization stablished in the contract via a check desposited by Baryen of Munich (hey, I like to be precise) in the name of the player.

The Athletic Club would like to manifest its deception for the decision adopted by Martínez, by him not considering sufficiently attractive our sporting project as this Club understands that it is consubstantial (for the love of God), esential, to the project Athletic that our first team be the maximum sporting aspiration to each and everyone of its players.

The president Josu Urrutia will offer a (show?? sorry - couldn't resist) press conference on Monday September the third, time to be determined.

Taken from Athletic Bilbao official website.

With one word everything seems to vanish. It is indeed over, welcome to Munich Mr. Martínez.

It's on official site, Rummenigge said that they avoided paying the taxes. Javi also agreed a reduced pay from what he'd usually want. If I'm not mistaken he'll earn 5 mio € per year instead of 7.

You can order Martinez shirt on Bayern online-shop. When you select home jersey and his name, on preview you can see Altintop.

The old no 8, after all.

A bit of an improvement from that if I say so myself.
