Well whatever, it's stupid discussing the pronounciation on the internet with the use of letters anyways.

Well, Spanish J may not be exactly the same as English H (I'm not entirely sure, but I think they are); nonetheless they are *definitely* the closest approximation possible.

Let's say it's the same as German H. Hart, Hamburg, hoch, hübsch. Now put j[jot/jota] instead of H and say like it's H there. :D

When you pronounce the spanish "J" it feels/sounds like the sound you make when you accumulate your spit right before spitting it out.
Weird comparison but it should be adequate, unless english people spit differently than german people.

Weird - those people still your "friends"???

The pronunciation thing is golden, cracking me up

Finnily enough, I'd say the end of the "Ich" Dumble mentioned, is close to how José, Jorge, James (and jamon, funnily enough that means ham ) start... For an English native I'd say it's like LoCH Ness... But I'm not going IPA on you

Boy, are we germans retarted or why do spanish names with J only sound similar to H to other people?

It sounds like an H to me too. The difference in my mind is so minute that it's really nitpicking not saying it's an H.

Well, japanese people use the same category in their brain for /r and /l vowels once they get used to their mother language so that might apply here to.

We don't have the exact sound in Maltese despite having a j that sounds like the German j, a silent h and a harsh-sounding ħ.
