We all know how it sounds bastos80, it's just that H is the best representation of that sound in English writing.

Sorry not sorry for starting this debate

Well I hope you all do. Would be funny if zozon was trying to sell me out as an idiot while he thinks it's Hames like Ham.

This topic is awesome! I knew the name would make a huge interest.

Michael Schumacher - how would Serbs write according to Vuk(write as you pronounce it): Mihael(German be like) and Majkl(English be like), Šumaha and Šumaher.

Hames(Spanish be like) or Đejms or Džejms(English be like) Rodrigez, Frank Riberi, PankKapitalist, SajlentStrajk, Vejn Runi, Izija Rašad, Havi Martinez, Dambldor.

Tako je fcb dženeral :D
Uvek mi je bilo čudno što u Hr ne pišete imena kako ih izgovarate s obzirom da ste dosledni pravilu povodom svega ostalog.

It's HAMES, he speaks spannish, he plays for colombia, so... if he was US player he would be James. In Spain and Portugal, Jose is different - why shouldn't James be different then?

Spoiler: show

But it's amusing to see the differences. One sound one letter with few exceptions, that's how it goes in Croatian alphabet and language. :D

I'll call him Rodriguez, not James(English) nor James(Spanish).

What I really want is to see him kicking asses and becoming a world-class player at Bayern. 8)

Except that you are only making yourself look like an idiot. You've got a COLOMBIAN tell us that it is HAMES with a H, so stop arguing just because you took Spanish lessons. I guess they turned out pretty bad...

So tell me master bastos80 how is ham diffent to hello when you are speaking it?

The umlauts are easy to pronounce if you're a guy.

All umlauted letters sound just the same as they would if you were trying to pronounce the word normally while someone has got a very tight grip on your balls.

Yeah man, how about you turn on your brain and think about the possibilty that the english "h" is different to the spanish/colombian "h"?
H is usually silent in spanish, just for your info.
If you're still that ignorant, just check out some YouTube videos on how spanish speakers pronounce James, like I told you 10 million times already.

You're probably pronouncing Javi like heavy aswell. Got no cure for that amount of ignorance I guess. Just because the sound for the spanish J doesn't exist in the english language doesn't mean his correct pronounciation is the one that sounds the most similar.

Weird - those people still your "friends"???

The pronunciation thing is golden, cracking me up

Finnily enough, I'd say the end of the "Ich" Dumble mentioned, is close to how José, Jorge, James (and jamon, funnily enough that means ham ) start... For an English native I'd say it's like LoCH Ness... But I'm not going IPA on you

Well I don't know, I mean every linguist would probably basically disagree...
But maybe there was just nobody else thinking of the Scottish "Loch"? Cause in all fairness, it's a little closer to h than to j...
