Franck Ribery slams Bayern Munich's transfer policy

The France international feels that the Bavarians do not have the necessary strength in depth to compete in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League

Franck Ribery believes that Bayern Munich have jeopardised their own chances of chances of lifting some silverware this season by failing to strengthen during the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old is concerned by the Bavarian outfit's strength in depth and thinks that they could end up paying for their parsimony in either the Bundesliga or the Champions League - or even both.

"I think it is a big problem for us if two or three players are injured,” Ribery told Sport1. "We do not have a really good bench and have no really good second team."

Ribery's comments are unlikely to go down well at the Allianz Arena because club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed on the same day that it had been the wish of coach Jupp Heynckes to remain inactive during the transfer window.

"It was the desire of the coach not to make any changes in the winter," the Bayern supremo told Bild. "We hope that we can get through with this squad."

Couldn't agree more , we struggled after every Champions league match . It was clear that we need more players for rotation we should have signed at least a deffender this january

Ribery: "Bayern have no real good bench and don't have a really good second team. But I'm not the president, nor the manager, just a player."

Heynckes doesn't rotate, even with the players he has.

I like the fact that Franck isn't afraid to say things like this, definitely will resonate with the management. But still, too late for the January window now, I hope his fears don't eventuate.

If any of our attackers become injured, positions will have to be reshuffled in alot of cases so it's always going to be Gustavo/Tymo/Olic coming in.

he did not said anything about transfers...he just said about our second team or subs...and he is right:)

There is not much of a rotatiton going on...let's hope we see it in 2nd half of the season...it will be vital for April and May.

Don Jupp replied to Franck's comments this way: "You have to prepare for transfer. I do not believe in quick fixes."

I hope he means the summer's guilt-full, expensive, greedy transfers that we shouldn't really live for.

And he is quite right about this too, but a quick fix in the form of a loan would have made a lot of sense at this point. Now Breno is out too. We have just 3 fit defenders. Not only do we need one more to fill our usual 4 player line but we also have no subs at all. What happens if someone gets injured or sent off?

I understand in some part what he means, you need time to learn the automatisms of the players you have around, i was a player and i know about it.

But , lets say for example, that howedes is available for a winter transfer, if you get him , it doesnt means that hes going to start rigth now, you sit him for 2 or 3 months until he adapts to the players around him, but also you have a good back up of emergencies.

So, unless its a finacial reason, i dont understand why you have to waste 6 months of adaptation in a player you are going to buy in the summer anyway.

Franck Ribéry: "I'm nearly 29 and I've got a contract that runs until 2015, so why not (stay)? I'm not thinking about leaving. My wife and my children are happy in Munich. We've just bought a nice house. I've been at Bayern for five seasons, I've got close friends like Daniel (van Buyten). This club has become my second family, my sporting family. I'm popular here. At Bayern, in Germany, I feel happy, that's the word. I'm really loving it. The next Champions League final is being held in the Allianz Arena ... I hope 2012 will be a great year for me.''

Anyone else thinks that Ribery should be one of the leading figures at this club by now?

He is right behind Schweini and Lahm...as he is almost 5 years with us and has strong personality.

I believe he should take more responsibility and work hard on making relationship between players better.

He is one of our longest serving players at our club and he has a contract that will probably keep him with us until he retires...so I believe Hoeness and others should make him feel he needs to do a lot of work regarding leading this team and speaking to players when in trouble.
He now speaks German well so he cant hide anymore..he really needs to take a bigger part in the future.

Best thing is I believe every player would 100% listen to him and keep in mind what he says to them [even Robben :)].

He could be our best weapon against bad team spirit and problems in the dressing room.

Maybe if he didn't act like a child himself. Don't get me wrong, I love his antics, but he's not captain material (even if that's not what you're thinking of).

I think he is more of a leader than Lahm...he is not afraid to speak up...and maybe he should use his mouth to speak to the players and not to the press:)
