Ribery has been getting a bit of stick in recent times for holding back Bayern or out youngsters but the guy still has that class that every team is willing to die for. If Carlo finds that perfect balance him and Coman will be game changers...

If his preseason form is anything to go by he has a bit left to offer the team but Carlo will have to properly manage him...

He wasn't that bad the previous season... This is Ribery, everyone knows him... I believe that Carlo will properly manage the situation with him and Robben, all three need that CL trophy.

Just that there are other and better teams hunting it as well...
He was always pretty dumb... No harm in him wanting to play, but in many games playing him 90 mins is either a waste of resources or suicide (when he's palpably declining after 50, 60 mins...)...

I love Ribery, but personally I think Coman should be the starter this season.
For me, Coman takes more time to "play his way into the game" if that makes sense. When he gets subbed in, I find he's not always effective as it feels like it takes him some time to get settled in. Ribery can adjust much more quickly. It's for that reason that I feel Coman should start and Ribery sub in often. Let Coman tire out the defenses - then send in Ribery to take advantage of that. I think this works best for both parties - Coman gets starter's minutes, Ribery still gets quality playing time and doesn't waste all of his energy/fitness - as said, while he's still "got it," it's noticeable that Ribery starts tailing off a bit sooner in matches than he used to. IMO he's not effective for a full 90 anymore.
Normally I'd say start him and send Coman in once the defense is tired out, but as I mentioned I find Coman isn't as effective when he's thrown into a game like that.

Neither should be starter this season. It should be James+Müller+Lewy upfront.

I think he could still be useful playing in a central position. He still has brilliant footwork, skills and vision but only lacks pace

I remember he didn't want to play in a central position in the past, but now that he's 32/33 y.o he should reconsider it if he wants to get significant playing time this year

Not that I'm expecting Carlo to try something relatively new like this tbh

Can't see tweet? Click here!

Ribéry: I would like to stay here until the end of my career but I can also imagine a move to another country. I can still play 2 or 3 years
Ribéry: "I'm considering applying for a German passport"
Ribéry: "My family is very happy in Munich. Whenever we go to France, they just stay for 1 or 2 weeks then they want to go back to Germany"
Ribéry on himself and Robben: "If the coach feels that we are still important, why do you need other players?"
Ribéry: "Arjen and I didn't understand each other so well at the beginning, but slowly we became best friends"
Ribéry: "I understand that I need a break after three or four games. I'm okay to sit on the bench"
