Emre Can

Postby MUTU » Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:20 pm

After being the man of the match in the U17 FIFA World Cup match (Germany 6-1 Ecuador), Emre Can was applauded by the U17 coach and former German international Steffen Freund who heaped extreme praise on him: "Emre is the most complete player I've ever seen in my career. And I've seen a lot. He has the stuff to make it to the top."

Emre Can is a right-footed central midfielder who is currently the captain of the German U17 national team. He was born on 12th January 1994 in Frankfurt am Main, but also holds Turkish nationality.

He is certainly one to look for in the future, and I'm sure that Jupp Heynckes will take a good look at him.

I'm not sure, I may be mistaking him with someone else, but I think I once saw him play as RB

It really is a shame that most of our up and coming talents are midfielders.

This season, Emre Can played for the FC Bayern U19 team, but next season he should be playing for Jonker's FC Bayern II (i.e. the reserve team). From there on, anything can happen for him.

I watched him play in some of the U17 games and hes an incredibly mature and complete player for his age. I really do hope we tie him down for a long term contract when he turns 18 so we dont lose him like some of our other talents. Just imagine if in 5 years players like Can, Alaba and Kroos develop enough so that our starting midfield is this:

Kroos-----Schweini-----Can----Alaba

With Muller and Gomez in front of them.

Yes we already considered this danger. Thank god doesn't have any englishmen playing for it... though Jennings, if the deal goes through, might start teasing him quite a bit. :P

Can you imagine a game narration with this guy on first team? We'd be going like...

'Robben Can Kross'... So, did he cross or not?
'Gomez Can score!'... Who scored?? Gomez or Can??
'Breno, Can, Foul!'... No need to explain that one...

These are some very big words coming out of Freund's mouth, aren't they?
He probably means Can is the most complete player AT HIS AGE that he has seen, right?... I mean, he's no better than Zidane right now, is he?

Anyway... nice to know that our youth ranks are full of very promising youngsters like Dombrowka (19-RB), Koez (18-RB), Can (17-CM), Huerzeler (18-AM), Burusic (18-ST), Friesenbichler (17-ST), Duhnke (17-OA), Derflinger (17-AM), Schoepf (17-CM), do Davies (16-AM) and many others.... Hope we don't lose them too easily (like Lewicki and some others)

Zidane was a legend, but he wasn't so complete (eg he didn't have great tackling and marking). The two most complete players I remember were Effenberg and Ballack, even though they didn't have super dribbling. Being complete is not about being good but about not having any relative weaknesses.

This means that Freund is saying that Emre Can has no apparent weakness in his game.

It seems Emre can not only play as CM, DM, AM, but also he can play as a defender... He's played a couple of matches for U17 there... and even in Bayern's official website he is listed as a defender in the FCB-II squad!

An utility man then? He definitely has the build of a defender.

I guess I might have been right then. I have only seen one Germany game in this tournament, and I really liked him in midfield. Maybe, just maybe, he can replace Schweini in the future. Schweini won't be here forever. By the time this guy is 21 Schweini would already be 31 years old.

I'm not sure.... I've read that he has played as CB... But he might have also played as RB, I guess!

lol.... Too bad LvG isn't around anymore.... Imagine how many weird lineups he could have created with Emre Can!

Honestly, I've never seen Emre Can, but you guys are overrating him!...I mean, he's so young and still early to judge his abilities, you see Toni Kroos...we've expected a lot from him we he was younger, but now I don't think he's up to those expectations :-?
