I think he will start being a replacement for Ribery

He has played for 5 consecutive years for Shakhtar, his first European team, and he's only 24 years old. Like any professional out there (any kind of profession whatsoever), he received a much better opportunity at a much better institution and is justifiably happy about it. How does that have "mercenary" written all over his face?!

You have 'I'm blinded by prejudices and judge players before they even made their debut for my club" written all over your face.

Sad.

If Costa is a mercenary, what should we call Götze? Just curious.

moimoi wrote:did you see mandzu as superior to gomez when he came to bayern? i doubt you did. gomez needed pressure to improve but he didnt.

and with costa and others, like rode, i wish people would just wait and see what happens. so many people act like experts.

and about the language thing... i wish they would all speak english. even at bayern - english as working language. it would make things less complicated.

i bet none of the brazilians who moved to ukraine thought they would be there for many years. costa was linked to barca and chelsea in the past. maybe he tried to leave ukraine every year but it just didnt happen.

and finally the comparison with busquets... comparisons work for certain aspects. and the aspect pep was talking about was the league the players played in before they became cl victors. ofc if you add more aspects every comparison becomes flawed or at least questionable.

Well, no, but I knew that they did... ;)

Have you HEARD some people's English? :P :D (I have - I teach English as a Second Language... ;) )
Do you know not even Lahm speaks English? It's kind of easy to learn yes, but everyday life in Munich is still pretty much German... ;)
So I think someone who comes here hast to learn the language, especially a professional... Proves that your heart is in it and you take it seriously...

The next thing actually IS mercenary attitude... (to take part in the recent development of the discussion...)
Many players today though have the same attitude,so I'm not holding it against him... BUT: The thing with Schweini shows, that the kid has some problems with self-perception... And not learning Ukrainian because of an "I'll be outta here in no time"-attitude would add to that... ;)

About the comparison thing: Yeah well, his comparison just sucked... ;)
However, questioning comparisons is a natural thing... And even if you neglect all that, I'm pretty sure those two were already outstanding players in their respective teams... Costa has a much bigger step to take, that's a fact IMHO...

I know most of the german national players speak english, including Lahm.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2789339/philipp-lahm-exclusive-world-cup-winner-louis-van-gaal-german-success-england-wait-glory.html

He speaks English but we spoke in German as he prefers to do interviews in his own language to ensure he is properly understood, which is admirable but lowers his global profile.

Really? I see a guy who is excited to play for us. A guy that sponsors Bayern more than any other player. Just look at him! He never takes off his hat!

Can we talk about Douglas Costa in his player profile? This isn't transfer talk material

No, no - it's okay because Götze is German. He's just ambitious and wants to play for the best club in his country. Costa is... I don't know, Brazilian? Therefore all he cares about is money. /s

Sick of people trashing this guy for absolutely no reason, even before he's played a minute for Bayern. He looks genuinely excited to be a part of Bayern.

Also, who cares that his farewell was in Portugese? I also lived for years in Germany, and I would still give my "farewell" in English, as I'd better be able to articulate what I'm saying.

So what?
If he plays good until then, brings us trophies, doesn't want to extend because of X reasons/Bayern board doesn't want to extend because of X reasons - I don't care what happens next.

Just look at Ballack, Kroos and plenty of other players that went to other great teams.

Players are not slaves, nor they are obliged to be a Muller-like fans of Bayern. All they have to do is play good. Everything else (loving the city, being a fan favourite) is a bonus.

And what are the absolute RACIST comments about the Brazilians being a mercenary players? And above all, people are judging him for not learing English/Ukrainian while playing in UKRAINE? I mean - seriously?

Didn't want to be the one to bring it up, but yes - definitely hearing a tinge of racism in some of these comments. Pretty damn sad, in my opinion.
