These days i was thinking,In Jupp's era the fullbacks had similar roles and Alaba was a beast and perfect for the position. he was one of the most determined and focused players on the pitch( in fact a scene from 2012 is still fresh in my mind vs madrid after alaba caused a penalty and madrid scored ,in the following action he beat everyone on the left wing and created a goalscoring opportunity for arjen robben to make up for his mistake.) today's alaba isn t this focused and determined to win and this could be due to mental fatigue and knowing that he's on a certain level and therefore has stopped pushing to the limit.I think he should find the correct mindset,or he can have a problems in the future.

spot on. Alaba seems to have settled and become complacent, at best. There needs to be true competition for his spot - that means giving Bernat (or whoever, if Bernat leaves) more starting time. For what it's worth, WhoScored rated Alaba a 7.29 on the season as LB, and gave Bernat a 7.53 in the same position.

I don't necessarily think this is the case, but one may need to wonder - did peak Ribery make Alaba seem better than he really is?

I agree completely. Price of reaching world class level at a very young age. Probability of stagnating is very high and it's even more difficult to get out of that stagnation when you're already considered to be at the very top.

I don't think it's got much to do with RIbery, it's all in his mental capacity to get out of this so-called "slump" and we have to appreciate that it would indeed be especially difficult as an LB - at least a striker can always look forward to his next goal. As far as fullbacks go, you can either be content with this level without ever receiving the major spotlight, or you can find other ways to keep motivated. The ones who succeed became the Lahm's, the Zanetti's.

And i'm again, back at this guy.

In some ways, his drop in form is more concerning than Thomas Müller’s, which is saying a lot.Alaba looks unfocused, at times lazy, and usually out of position. Those are all things he can fix by himself. At a point, it is not even correct to say he is in bad form, because that implies things just… somehow are not working out. Instead, Ancelotti has a player on his hands that is a shell of himself, who should be entering the prime of his career, but appears to be regressing. On PSG’s first goal, Alaba forgot that he should turn his face to the left and look if there's any player of PSG who's cutting in (later on,Mbappe almost broke his neck). One can criticize Sven Ulreich’s inability to save Alves’ strike to the near post all they like, but it never should have come to that. Alves had about an acre of space to decide when and how he wanted to take his shot on goal, and that is almost all down to Alaba. If this were just a one-off, an aberration, then I would be willing to move on from Alaba at this point. But this is not the first time Alaba’s focus and motivation have come into question, and it seems like we are speeding headlong into a situation where the player may have to be moved. He does not want to play in defense, that much is clear. If Bayern decide by July that he will not fit into their midfield, then Alaba may no longer fit at the club altogether.

Yes, I'm concerned about Alaba as well. On the one hand, his defensive skills went downhill; from a tactical side, he's being caught out of position too often; from a tackling side, he's getting beaten much easier in one-on-ones. Playing him in a different position doesn't seem to work either. He's going uphill a lot, so one would be excused for wondering whether it'd make sense for him to play as a left winger, however the quality of his crossing, especially as of late, leaves way too much to be desired. He can take on his man, but if he can't cross he's useless on the wing. If he can't tackle anymore either, then he's useless anywhere on the pitch. I really hope he can get out of this slump.

his NT coach has ruined him... he plays as the #8 or #10 ...
Pep confused him even further with his complicated instructions...

the guy is lost ... I won't be surprised if he handles a transfer request by the end of the season...

If so he will join Barca and will be deployed as LCM ...

If that happens we should go for either Hector or Klostermann.

Pep Guardiola make Alaba worse by playing him CB 50% of the time.
Ancelotti make Alaba even worse by playing him in a with no tactical plan team.

Many players have to leave Bayern before Alaba.

Whatever, Bayern can't find a better LB than him with his philosophy on the transfermarket.

Hector ? Would not doing better than Alaba in this Bayern.
