Van Buyten, made good performances in BuLi, not so in the CL. I can't get rid of the images of his performance back in the 2010 CL final, awful, looked so weak in front of Milito. Pressure killed his performances. I forgive you after all these years. Thank you, Big Dan!

Danke fur alles DVB! I still remember that nasty free kick vs Leverkusen. I hope he stays on with bayern in some way.

Great guy, sadly enough, he had many to much injuries aswell.. But he picked up last season when there were some problems in the defense.. Great guy as a person aswell.. He would be great as a mental coach, the spirit and profassionalism he had.

Must've imagined that three goal win in Barcelona...

Van Buyten was good for us when we parked the bus, like we did against Barca. :coffee:
Still, great guy, hopefully will stay at the club somehow.

Or that 4 goal loss to Barca. Please don't take me back to the days when Inzaghi was famous.

Reports from Belgium reveal that Bayern is currently trying to convince van Byten to return to play for the club one last season.

Thanks, I've since found the original exclusive source, Sudpresse.

Which competitions would he be eligible to play in? For sure, not the Champions League until 2015.

I'd welcome his return too. I always thought him Bayern quality and never agreed with the fans who rubbished him.

Van Buyten also had a very good World Cup. My brother, who watches the EPL most of the time and hadn't seen much of Van Buyten in the past, thought he was one of the best central defenders at the World Cup, and thought his performances were virtually as good as those of the highly rated Kompany.

It would be nice having him back. Boateng and Benatia then can get some rest in easier games.

Daniel van Buyten becomes the 6th footballer to win Belgium's top sporting merit trophy after Union Sint-Gillis (1934), Paul van Himst (1974), Michel Preud'homme (1989), Jan Ceulemans (1990) and Marc Wilmots (2002) [source]
