His contract expires at the end of the season, which means that he's free to sign a contract with another team on 1st January and leave for free at the end of the season... just the same way in which we saw Ballack and Ze Roberto leave at the end of last season.

Pizarro temporarily retires from national team

Postby MUTU » Tue Oct 17, 2006 5:28 pm

Peru striker Claudio Pizarro said on Tuesday that he would no longer play for his country as long as Franco Navarro remained coach of the team.

"I've sent a letter to the directors of the federation informing them that while this coach continues I will not play for the national team," Pizarro said in an interview with the RPP radio station.

"So, I've asked them not to pick me for the upcoming games. That's my final say in the matter," said the Bayern Munich striker, speaking from Germany.

Pizarro's decision follows controversy after he played in only one of Peru's two friendly internationals against Chile earlier this month.

Chile won the first match in Vina del Mar 3-2 on Oct. 7 and the return 1-0 in Tacna on Oct. 11.

Pizarro returned to Germany after the first game, saying he wanted time to train for Bayern Munich's match at home to Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga last weekend.

Pizarro scored one goal and set up another as Bayern won Saturday's game 4-2.

The player said he had the full agreement of Peruvian football federation directors and did not understand why the issue had raised such controversy.

"I haven't quit the national team, I'd never do that, but I don't believe in the current process," he said.

Navarro, a former Peruvian international forward, took over as coach earlier this year and has failed to win any of his five games in charge.

Peru, who last played at the World Cup in 1982, have drawn with Trinidad & Tobago and Ecuador and lost at home to Panama as well as suffering the two defeats by Chile.

I have a feeling that he will sign an extension...

We can't lose both Makaay(most probably..:D..I know I am starting a debate here..welcome to all comments) and Pizzaro in the same year..

When's Makaay contract up? I don't think we'll be selling him this year along with Pizzaro leaving. Otherwise we'll have to get replacements for both strikers. Hopefully Bayern will be going after Huntelaar.

I guess Makaay's contract got extended by a year(2008 maybe).
But I guess that was just for safety in case we failed to lure any good striker.

Passable you mean? :)
Seriously, the last striker Bayern had who could compete to win awards was Klinsmann. Before that it was probably Rummenigge. We've lost the feel of having a world class striker amongst our ranks.

He wasn't bad, but you wouldn't have expected him to win the world player of the year, would you? He didn't even play for his national team...

It's very dissapointing the way pizarro is behaving. If pizarro also goes then bayern would lose 50m pounds worth of signings.I probably know why is pizarro behaving this way.He knows bayern can't let go another player free so he's asking an enormous 60,000 pounds a week contract
