That's quite shocking: http://www.welt.de/sport/fussball/bunde ... erden.html

Mattias Sammer has been allowed by the DFB to join FC Bayern as a Sporting Director replacing Nerlinger.

It's already on most websites, the original source is Bild which is usually reliable.

Interesting, as soon as Nerlinger starts to do stuff he gets the freeway?

Or am I mistaken, did he not get fired - but relocated to the boardroom?

Well one is inclined to think about the near-misses we've had on the transfer market with Martinez and Dzeko, and whether or not they have had something to do with it.

On the website it says that this was decided before the Euro's. Therefore you'd imagine that Nerlinger never had much say in our new signings so far.

"He is very shy, and his statements are balanced. He is not one to polarise situations, and therefore, every now and then, normal fans do not like him.

"The fact that we did not achieve our goals lies first and foremost with the team, and then it goes to the general manager."

Heynckes, regarding Nerlinger. I agree fully - Nerlinger was never going to win in public opinion polls, and not really through fault of his own. It also seems to reaffirm the theory that it was not a conflict of personalities that resulted in his demise (because he'd never get into a conflict with Uli).

This kind of people comes and goes but the club remain the same as always.
No big deal if nerlinger goes or sammer comes in because at the end they are just YES guys.
Uli is the king maker...

The whole point of the Sammer move is that a) he's not a yesman, and b) Uli knows this and actually gave him more powers than Nerlinger had.

If that really is the case then i'll be happy but still sammer need to prove himself.I am not a fan of this sporting director, executive or so many new position's.The coach is the one who should pick and buy player's in my mind,
Maybe i am still in old school:P

In a club like Bayern, success is the top priority every season. Usually coaches who aren't successful don't stay long. It's been a long time since we've kept a coach for more than 2 years now.

When you have a situation like this, I do not think that the coach should be given too much power when it comes to running the club. Having someone who remains there regardless of who the coach is is important imo.

Of course, this does not mean that the coach should have no say, especially in transfers. He will ask for players in the positions he wants to strengthens, he will suggest some names (like with Martinez right now) but in the end it is up to Sammer and co to judge whether it is necessary or not, or whether it is the best solution or not.

As long as he is not unreasonable or too cheap, I am totally in favour of having this position.
Super Bayern! Super Bayern! Hey! Hey!
