UEFA Youth League 2013/14

Postby AdepT » Wed Jun 12, 2013 3:13 pm

Who thinks we can win the
2013–14 UEFA Youth League ? [source]

I do. :dante:

It's going to be between us, Barca, Milan*, Ajax, RM and Schalke*. Maybe Arsenal* too. Any others who could contend?
What do you think of Dortmund-U19 & U17, Borusse?

If only we could send one of our teams in Europa league, we could try for a UEFA trophy treble. =P~

I don't.

Look at our U-19 level. Only German youth international we have is Can, and he's long been promoted from that level.
The ideal team

I guess Barca and Schalke would be the favorites in that league.

Dont know much about them, just heard of few youngsters playing there who have big potential like Dudziak and Sarr. I know that BVB u19 didnt make a good impression in NextGen Series last year. :P

I don't think a team is going to send out their first team squad players. It's obvious Schalke won't send Draxler and Goretzka(Is the deal done yet?) for this tournament.
Bayern's U19 team [source]
&
U17 team [source]

Can and Weiser are 19 so I am not sure if they'll be allowed to play in the competition or not. Plus it would be better for them to go out on loan for first flight experience than play this.

Only teams who would have been very easy choices for finalists or semi-finalists are Liverpool U19s and Inter U19s. Their senior teams are not in CL.

I remember reading about a match of how RM's junior team thrashed Barca's back in Feb. They're not that strong.
Also, Friesenbichler, Markoutz, Rankovic ad Julian Green have a chance to impress. I've read about these guys only. :)
Plus there's a Scholl in U17 squad. Lucas Scholl. Another namesake. =P~

The thing is much will depend on what the management plans for Weiser/Can. Most importantly for Hojbjerg. He can captain this team.
Barca are going to send Delofeu on loan. And there's only one guy from Milan I know of, Hachim Mastour who's a huge talent. Aged 16-17. Somewhere in between.

If Weiser/Can/Hojbjerg all join in, we are in for a serious chance at the cup.

The questions I have are :
1. If we loan out a player, then surely he won't be eligible for this Cup, right?
2. Even if this is to be played, I'd rather have the board send Can and Weiser to loan to teams who'll play in Europe or at least first flight. It's important that they gain the experience.
3. If a U19 player is on the senior squad and is available for the game, will he be eligible for the game in this competition? Because say they are named in the CL squad for the season and then surely they won't be allowed to play in two UEFA competitions?
4. THE BIG QUESTION : Hojbjerg? Should he be sent out on loan or should he play a bit part role in the senior squad, FCB II and the UEFA Youth League Cup games(if he is eligible for it according to point 3).
5. I know this is stupid but will this competition affect the coefficient ratings of a club or country? Being a UEFA competition, they may consider it. Though I haven't read about anything of the kind.

Arsenal have a nice academy. So do Barca, RM, Schalke, Leverkusen, Dortmund(?), Ajax, Milan and us. So these are the teams that could be seen in QFs.
About others
1. Chelsea : huh? They have the biggest squad and loan all players out. So be ready for a fully bought U19 team.
2. ManU : David Moyes might improve youth setup. But I haven't heard of any exceptional talent there yet.
3. PSG and City : I know they have youth squads but hey! I think they're gonna shop at La Masia for this cup.
4. Napoli & Atletico: No idea.
5. Porto, Benfica, Juve may have good local talent(I've never read about them). They emphasise on them so there squads should be competitive.

I believe this competition is going to be decided between German teams/ RM/Barca/Arsenal/Milan.

So, you basically go away for a couple of days, and then come back and write a long post to make up for those "lost" days, eh?!

To note that, starting from this season, there will be an U19s tournament shadowing the UEFA Champions League: all clubs participating in the Champions League will have their U19s play in this tournament called the UEFA Youth League.

The group stage of the competition will be formed using the same draw that will decide the UEFA Champions League group stage, which takes place in Monaco on 29 August.

Hey MUTU will you be creating separated match threads for U19 games?

Hey MUTU will you be creating separated match threads for U19 games?

I guess a single thread should do. Depends really. Even if we were to do different threads there'll only be at max 13 threads.
It's your call MUTU. :)

@MUTU : Don't forget to add these matches to the fixtures list when they become available. :D

I'm still unsure. There isn't too much activity in the reserve teams' matches, but the fact that the U19s will play against other European teams may make it a bit more interesting. Let's monitor the activity first and then see whether they deserve their own matches and schedule, much like the amateur team.
