Yes it was me cause somone sent a msg to my friend next to me. I was wearing the malta shirt (donated to me by Failla himself)
We played well hux? Our problem is the finishing... #11Rowen Muscat & #13Schembri even the def and the GK played very very well.
General did you watch the game?

Me. :D

Netherlands are very far from their glory days. I'm glad that old Cruyff won't be a smartass this time and spit around the globe as he likes to do.

They were terrible. But I think they have bigger problem than bad qualification - less world class players, ordinary and moderate players.

I just feel incredibly sorry for Robben. His love for his NT is pretty special and it must be tough after only being made captain.

That's the reason - no generation of very talented players and old crew got old with years.

They were accusing van Gaal for football decadency with Oranje, experimenting with all sort of formations till Brazil 14', playing with 3 defenders in the last line, but the truth is that van Gaal couldn't do anything better after disastrous Euro 2012 where Netherlands' decline was so obvious. In the end he won the bronze medal which is a big result with those lads.

If we compare generations between 1985 and 2010 with the one after World Cup final 2010, more than evident how much talent lacks in Netherlands. Something what I have never seen in my life, but something like that happened.

seems sneijder and van persie are completely past it now although van persie is poor at major tournaments anyway. It is surprising to see a team close to being in the wc final becoming so poor so fast robbens injuries probably being a key reason

Sweden WC 1994
Croatia WC 1998
Turkey WC 2002
Netherlands WC 2014

They all have one thing in common - 3rd place and bronze on World Cup.

But they have also something more in common, if you get it.

Netherlands missed out in 1984 as well...
My bet is on France to lift the title... as in that yr the Euros were held in France and history repeats itself.
Apart from this. I've just read (on the italian cry babies media) that their NT will not be one of the seeded teams...
Four out of six 3rd placed teams will qualify from the group stages. Therefore most of the big guns won't miss out...
These are the seeded teams : Fran Spa Ger Eng Por Bel
Pot 2 : Before play offs : Ita, Cro, Swi, Aus, Rus
Pot 3 : '' '' : Rom Svk
Pot 4 : '' '' : Alb, N.Ir, Wal, Ice

I pray that Germany meets Italy in the group stages it is the safest phase to meet them. Knock out stages is impossible for Germany to beat them.

I feel like the Dutch are reaching their statistical mean for the amount of great football players that can come out of such a small population. With 16 million people, they are in the weight class of Chile, who currently have a magnificent generation. But Germany, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, even England have over twice the population that Holland does.
The ideal team

I dont agree with you. Their youth teams are very good plus they have a lot of non dutch living there who are aquiring citizenship... Have a closer look at their nt players. They will recover soon.

It's not just a population thing, otherwise China and India should produce WC squads.

In my younger years I used to prepare probable formations when Major tournaments were drawing close.
Here I am getting at it again.
This is France.

subs. Zouma,Sakho,Kurzawa,Gonalos,Kondogbia,Guilavogui,Cabaye,Fekir,Lacazette,Coman,Giroud.
