The rest of the Olympics doesn't really bother me but this be interesting with Germany involved and with it being in Brazil. Sort of an U23 world cup. Will Brazil have another home game against Germany ?

I'm wondering the same thing. Ozil has said he wants to play. And this mentions three possibilities:

To avoid confusion... let's keep this thread for the men's football thread and use the Olympics Thread in The Lounge for all other events including women's football.

We Iraqis played sometimes dirty, but had a lot of heart (much more than the opponents!) to keep Brazil at bay... One more game to go and we have to win against South Africa to go through...

Regarding Germany, we (yes i support both!) have to crush Fidji with more than 4 goals and we will qualify to the second round. And it's doable, South Korea beat them 8-0, Mexico beat them 5-1, i don't know why Germany can't do it.

We just need to focus and play well... With Max Meyer bringing his magic, the rest (especially Gnabry and Selke) carrying on scoring goals...

Wow this Brazil and Colombia match is literally a war zone. Players are deliberately fouling opponents to injury them

Now Nigeria it is ... I know I am pessimist but Germany have a tendency to struggle against African teams... I observed this also in the last U20 WC where Germany were humiliated by Mali (If I am not mistaken)
I am sure as hell that Brazil want to meet Germany in the final for a payback.

A Brazil-Germany final would be great to watch. The entire Brazilian nation will be watching this game hoping for a revenge.

For the average fan that's true, for more educated fans in the sport it does not mean anything even if they trash Germany.

Olympic Football means little in the big scheme of things, although due to the state of the National Team and that they are the host nation it means more for Brazil. To have an idea of what impact Olympic Football has, Germany and Brazil themselves, the two most successful nations in World Cup history have never the Olympics. Even Italy has not won it in the modern era (after WWII) On the other hand Nigeria, Cameroon and Mexico won it in recent years and they have little to show when it comes to World Cups.

A friend of mine who supports and has family in Brazil told me that all Brazilians are desperate to win the Olympics because they've never done so and because it's in Rio. If they play against Germany that will intensify even more.
