Really? Why will it be hostile?

Another question as I haven't been watching. What have the crowds been like in terms of numbers?

The crowds have been poor to mediocre, at least in the German games I’ve seen so far. In the Costa Rica and Guinea games the crowds were rooting more for the underdogs than for Deutschland. It was different today in Delhi though with the crowd supporting the Germans and I saw a few Bayern shirts too!

I’ve been to India on a couple of occasions and Bengal is the footballing capital of the country. Kolkata is Bengal’s capital and the Bengali people for most part have rooted for South American countries like Brazil (Pelé) and Argentina (Maradona).

During my first visit in 2005 when I was 15, me and my family had gone to a five city trip of India (Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, Kolkata and Amritsar). The football fans I met in Kolkata were almost exclusively Brazil fans (mind you this is when Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu were still around). I think that soccer has much more scope in the eastern parts of the country than probably anywhere else. [Side note: No one there even knew what “football” is here in the USA, although people knew what Basketball is ]

So yes If Brazil is playing in Kolkata that automatically will make them crowd favorites and they’ll get a very home team like treatment from the spectators at the stadium. Now I don’t expect the jeering you see in Europe when the opponent has the ball, so I don’t think there should be jeering and whistling when Germany have possession of the ball, but if Brazil score expect the stadium to erupt and if Germany score expect stunned silence.

Timothy Weah's 2nd goal of his hat trick. A blast:

My cousin's husband who is Indian supports Bayern and Germany.
He told me he is the only one as all his family are die hard English fans

England are in the semi finals. An England team doing well in India  Shame it's not an England cricket team. They will play Germany or Brazil in the semi final where I suspect their tournament will end.

Sadly, Germany has been kicked out in 1/4-finals by Brazil 2-1. Germany scored first at 21', Brazil then equalized at 71' then took the lead to win at 77'.

No details about the game as I didn't see it, except from minute 80'.

Dammit, would have been funny for Brazilians to be knocked out by the U17 of Germany. U17. Under 1-7

The last England team (one I actually support) to play a world tournament in India got to the final and lost at the very end when they looked like clear favourites going into the final stages. Hopefully the same fate will come of a team of England footballers. 2-0 up in the 80th minute then losing 3-2 would be the footballing equivalent of the four sixes in the last over by the West Indies.
