I don't think anyone disputes the world cup, but there certainly are way too many international useless games.

I don't see anything about that online (just as I see nothing about Kassai being suspended by UEFA, which was claimed in another post). The only change I have seen mentioned is that 2022 WC hosts Qatar will not host the 2021 edition and that it will be hosted by another Asian country to be chosen later.

Could be that whoever told me that misinterpreted it then. I believe it was something I was told not something I read.

Totally agree with this. International friendly matches should be scrapped. Only qualifying matches should take place.

However, International matches that have a trophy involved should be taken seriously, especially if your chances of winning that trophy are once in a decade. Germany last played in this Cup 12 years ago! that was only because they were the hosts, so if Germany want to play in this tournament again in at least four years time, they better win the 2018 World Cup or the 2020 Euro (not that I would mind that, but winning those two trophies ain't exactly a cakewalk)

Here's my priority in International matches : World Cup>Euro>Confederations Cup>Olympic Gold
Btw, Qualifying matches should be taken seriously too, because if you fail to qualify then you stay home, like the Dutch did last year and are possibly going to do next year.

What a weird shit, sorry bro

Clubs PAY their players! FIFA and FA's do SHIT! They only milk em...
Sorry boss, I gotta go banking for Germany, but don't worry, I might hurt myself there, but I could just as easily hurt myself working for you... Oh, and while they make tons of money out of my workforce, please make sure that you're not running late on my paycheck ok?!
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

Most trophy competitions should be discarded. I mean everyone loves the WC and Euro (a bit less), but who even cares about Olympic Football or the Confed Cup? Besides the rules are bizarre.

Last year, Brazil took Neymar and Douglas Costa as the senior players to the Olympics, Germany took the Bender twins. What kind of meaning does such a competition have? :-/

I mean, Brazil's Olympic gold basically means "Brazil was really desperate to win a trophie that year and knew before hand they weren't a legitimate competitor for the Copa América".

I think there need to be international friendlies. National teams can (and some do) play random friendlies against club teams (almost like practice matches), but I think they need to have some opportunities to play against other national teams in the big stadiums in front of the big crowds. That way they can work on different tactics and try out different players, etc., all in an authentic, yet risk-free setting.

I'd rather have them shorten the qualifying campaigns. In an article I read a few years ago, Beckenbauer proposed qualifying groups of four teams, playing each other twice, making for each team playing six matches total. I'd like to see that.

I'd like to see those six matches broken down into two short spans. For instance, playing three matches over a week (Wednesday to Wednesday) in November and then the other three matches over a week in May/June. That would be more like two mini-tournaments rather than qualifiers dotted here and there throughout the calendar. It would give fans a chance to reset from club to country, especially the May/June dates, which would be after the club seasons.

I'd throw in four friendly dates (all Wednesdays) during the qualification process, maybe one in Sept, one in Oct, one in March, and one in April. So they'd play, for instance, ten matches from Sept 2016 to June 2017, and qualification would be done a whole year prior to the WC. Then from Sept 2017 to April 2018 they'd have five Wednesday friendlies dotted throughout the calendar. It would mean a total of fifteen internationals, plus the two before the tournament, over the course of two years rather than the 18, plus two, they play now. Not a huge difference, but it's something, and the scheduling would make the qualifying campaign more interesting in my opinion.

I agree about the friendly games but then what about the NT coaches? They too have to prepare for the games...
The solution is as I had once said. Similar to the UCL qualifying rounds.
This will work out by having mini groups were the lowest ranked Nations play each other.
For example the last 12 nations will be deceived into four groups ...
The winners of the group will advance to play with the other nations.
This will save the big nations the likes of four games...
Plus there should be a two month break were all the int matches will be played. One like in September and the other in January

Congratulations to Chile or Portugal on winning the Confederations Cup! Russia and Mexico are the dark horses. As much as I would love Germany to win this thing, lack of experience will be their undoing. At least two World Cup winners should have been selected in the team. Also, Reus and Ozil chickened out!

Still hoping that The Draxler-Sane combination does well as the wingers and Timo can score some goals against tough opposition.

He is the Pres... I am sure that if that happened to be in the US the Pres would have done the same... or maybe cause he likes sport a lot.
What a hymn my goodness... impressive.

But the presidents of the host nations don't usually address the opening ceremony, no? I agree that probably the US would do the same though.
