Dortmund also rested many players in that game and instead of making stupid errors like Starke, Neuer saved a penalty :)

Starke made a big mistake, it's true, but let's not forget that he also made some pretty good saves in this match as well. Sometimes it's easier to remember mistakes. We'll never know what would have happened had we had all players fit, but we didn't and we still had a more expensive bench than Dortmund.

If you make a mistake in the 5th minute, then it has a lasting effect on the match.

Or you could say that he and his teammates had 85 whole minutes to make up for it, which they did when Robben got the equalizer.

I don't mind Starke's mistake because everybody makes mistakes. What I worry is the handling (or lack thereof) of the back passes. I have already stated this in another thread, that is a very dangerous game to play. When there is an opponent pressing, either on the keeper directly or on the players offering assistance, you don't control the ball or pass to them. Just kick the ball long even if the ball is lost to the opponents but at least it is in their half and then the opponents can be immediately pressed to win the ball back. Better safe then sorry.

And Neuer is not much better than Starke either in those situations. He also risks and when he makes a mistake, he remembers for a few matches and kicks the ball long without hesitation but then starts messing about with the ball again. And I definitely don't want to see a Ter Stegen moment either.

I feel like Neuer tho is much more comfortable in those high pressure situations since he is always fine coming out of the goal box to diffuse sticky situations....

Neuer is fine with the ball at his feet, this myth of him being accident prone is just that and nothing more. And it is clear that Starke was acting according to Pep's instructions re: passing from the back.

It's not the first time Neuer doesn't control the ball correctly especially when he 'rushes' towards the ball with an opponent a few meters away.

While swimming in clear waters of Croatia I thought to myself: They suffered enough!

The bet is over, you may now remove the Klopp > Guardiola signatures. :P

I'm still bitter about this match :(

If we win the Club World Cup we'd be holders of all possible competitive & friendly trophies except for the DFL Supercup :(
