2016/17 UEFA Youth League

Postby FCBayernMunchen » Sat Aug 06, 2016 4:39 pm

After horrible performances in the first 3 editions, hopefully we'll do something more this year.

From Wikipedia:
Chelsea are the title holders after winning the previous two editions. However, since the UEFA Youth League title holders do not get an automatic qualifying place, and both the Chelsea senior team failed to qualify for the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League and the Chelsea academy team failed to win the 2015–16 Professional U18 Development League 1, they are unable to participate in this tournament to defend their title.

Oh great..This embarrassment again..
Do we have any good prospects this time around or or we again have to contend with 1 or 2 points out of a possible 18?

The problem is that we play our best U19s in the main team (eg Sanches) or the reserves.

I don't think so because nobody rates it.  I was telling a friend of mine about it last week and he had no idea what it is. I had no clue Chelsea won the last two titles.

I know what you mean... I won't bat an eye if we don't do good in this competition... while some others might read too much from it.

I'd like us to do well but not exactly going to lose sleep over it if we don't. We don't seem to have a problem with finding talented youngsters anyway. :) FCB-II getting promoted is more important.

My Chelsea-supporting brother knows what it is. He won't shut up about how great their youth system supposedly is x'D

Do they still buy a bunch of youngsters and loan them out all over Europe, never to return?

Then spend millions to get them back, like Lukaku.

Oh, yes they do. They must have like 50-100 loaned players scattered around Europe. The worst (best) part of it all is that the best ones end up slipping through the cracks (de Bruyne, Lukaku, hopefully Christensen). Mourinho's last tenure was a real disaster for Chelsea IMO.

Oh cool I had totally forgotten about the UEFA Youth League!

Man City are currently beating Gladbach with 2 goals inside the first 10 minutes.

Not a bad start but let's hope the youth team can at least make it to the knockout round this time....
