'Winning matches like this speaks for our quality'

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Jan 21, 2018 7:35 pm

FC Bayern extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon, beating Werder Bremen 4-2 and taking another step towards a sixth German championship title in a row. However, boss Jupp Heynckes was not entirely satisfied after the first home victory of the year. "We weren't as determined in our moves today, we were too slow in our transitions from defence to attack," criticised Heynckes.

Reaction to Bayern v Bremen

Jupp Heynckes: "We encountered a team that turned in a very good display, attacked boldly for the most part and caused us problems. We weren't as determined in our moves today, we were too slow in our transitions from defence to attack. But winning matches like this speaks for our quality. Bremen turned in a good performance, they didn't play like a team from the bottom of the table in the relegation battle."

Thomas Müller: "Bremen did a good job, we weren't alert at the start. It's been a rather long week for us, we played last Friday and now on Sunday. But the team are there when they need to be. However, we have quite a few things to work on, as we do after every match. We certainly aren't where we want to be."

Florian Kohfeldt (Werder Bremen coach): "It was a great match with many chances at either end. All credit to my team after this game. We wanted to play boldly, we succeeded at it for many phases. I'm very annoyed at the defeat because I think we could have taken at least one point. But I'm pleased with our performance, we can build on that."

Max Kruse (Werder Bremen): "By and large we turned in a good display, but at the end of the day only the points count. If you concede four goals you haven't done everything right. Considering the course of the match more would have been possible for sure."
