'We can play better'

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Jan 28, 2017 8:40 pm

FC Bayern set a new record on Saturday, winning 2-1 away to Werder Bremen. The Bavarians are now on 13 consecutive victories against the men from the north, and no Bundesliga side has ever won as many matches on the bounce against the same opponents. However, the Munich men were not completely satisfied even though they retained top spot in the league table after the second victory in the second match this year: "We have to be more disciplined and control the match when in possession," analysed scorer Arjen Robben.

Reaction to Bremen v Bayern

Carlo Ancelotti: "It was difficult today, but we won deservedly. We had problems after we conceded the goal, we were knocked out of our stride. Werder played very well, especially in the second half. But difficult moments in the course of a season are perfectly normal."

Philipp Lahm: "The main thing is that we've won, but it's clear that we can play better, and that we have to. The next phase of midweek matches is approaching. Heavyweight encounters await us, we must play better than in the last two matches then."

Arjen Robben: "It should have been over when we were two up. Bremen upped the pressure in the second half and attacked more, so it should have been easier for us to score. We have more space then, and we have to make better use of it. If we play better we ideally make it three or four without reply. We have to be more disciplined and control the match when in possession. We also allowed too many counter-attacks in the first half. There's lots to improve."

Alexander Nouri (Bremen coach): "Our positional play was good in the first half. We'll take heart from the way we played. We failed to earn our reward against two strong teams. We want to see to it that we convert strong displays into points."

Max Kruse (Werder Bremen): "Freiburg demonstrated last week that you can play attacking football against Bayern. If you have the courage to do it, like we did in the second half, it's possible. We have quality in attack, but one half is not enough. If you want to take points against Bayern you have to play well for 90 minutes. We turned in a good display, but we ultimately took no points."
