Strong record against Wolfsburg

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Apr 29, 2017 8:40 am

FC Bayern Munich have predominantly good memories of Wolfsburg. Eleven wins and four draws from 20 games is the record for the Bavarians, only leaving with nothing on four occasions. FCB have also won the Bundesliga title on two occasions in Wolfsburg (2003 and 2008)! A scenario that could be repeated again on Saturday if Leipzig fail to beat Ingolstadt in the afternoon and Bayern then secure all three points against the Wolves.

A 76 per cent win rate

Statistically speaking, a Bayern win looks likely. The record champions have been victorious in 35 of their 46 competitive matches against the Lower Saxony club – a 76 per cent win rate. There have also been seven defeats and just four draws. Against no other team do Wolfsburg have a worse win percentage (9%) than against FCB. The Bavarians have won the last five in a row, keeping a clean sheet on three occasions.

Room for improvement on Saturday evenings

Bayern fans can have great hope for yet another victory, but be warned: The Reds have struggled a bit on Saturday evenings in recent times. They have failed to win any of the last four at 18:30 CEST on a Saturday, with three 0-0 draws and a 1-0 loss in Dortmund.

A joyful reunion

Andries Jonker, Mario Gomez and Luiz Gustavo are all key players at Wolfsburg with Bayern history. Jonker was in Munich from 2009 to 2012 as assistant to Louis van Gaal, caretaker coach and then in charge of the reserves. Gomez was FCB’s goal-getter between 2009 and 2013, winning seven titles with the Reds, whilst Gustavo was the midfield enforcer from 2011 to 2013.

Zwayer in charge

Felix Zwayer from Berlin is the referee for Saturday’s game. It’s the 26th time the 35-year-old estate agent has taken charge of a competitive Bayern game. He was last in the middle for FCB in the 2-0 win over Ingolstadt in February 2017. He will be assisted by Thorsten Schiffner and Mark Borsch, with Thorben Siewer as fourth official.
