Stats and facts after the opener

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Aug 19, 2017 12:20 pm

The 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga opener not only yielded three points for Bayern but also lots of interesting facts and figures. fcbayern.com has delved into the stats after the Bundesliga opener.

Lewandowski: Mr opener

Robert Lewandowski needs no warm-up to click into gear. The Poland captain is the first player in Bundesliga history to score on Matchday 1 in seven consecutive seasons. On Friday he made his 150th competitive appearance for FC Bayern, boasting an impressive 114 goals. He finally netted against Leverkusen after failing to score in the four previous fixtures against the Rhineland outfit. He has scored four goals in three competitive fixtures so far this term and boasts 27 goals in 26 matches in 2017. The striker is ruthless from the spot. Lewandowski has scored 14 out of 15 Bundesliga penalties, converting 13 on the bounce.

Good omen ninth minute

Niklas Süle opened the scoring this season with his ninth-minute header, following in Xabi Alonso's footsteps, who scored the first goal of the previous season. The Spaniard also netted in the ninth minute, unleashing a belter against Werder Bremen.

Dream start for Tolisso

Corentin Tolisso only needed two shots to score his maiden Bundesliga goal. The Frenchman headed in after 17 minutes, celebrating his first goal wearing Bayern colours.

Bayern extend streaks

Goals are almost guaranteed for Bayern fans visiting the Allianz Arena. The German record champions scored in their 54th competitive home match on the bounce on Friday. The last similar streak was between 1979 and 1982, when Bayern scored in 77 consecutive home matches. Matchday 1 is a good omen for the men from Munich. On Friday they won their sixth consecutive Matchday 1 game, equalling Kaiserslautern's Bundesliga record from 1989 to 1994.

Three captains for FCB

Bayern took the first three points on Friday, and three different players wore the armband. Thomas Müller captained the champions as Manuel Neuer was not available for selection. Müller passed the armband on to Franck Ribéry when he was subbed off on the hour mark. The Frenchman handed over the armband to Arjen Robben when he left the pitch with 13 minutes to go.
