Squad still decimated, but Robben returns

Postby FCBayernNews » Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:00 pm

"Unbelievable," moaned Arjen Robben, "that's just unbelievable. You can't just let play carry on after that." Diego Contento had wrestled possession from Bayern's tricky winger, raced upfield, and scored. Robben found it hard to digest, but exacted revenge on Contento and his team a little later with a sublime lobbed finish and an inch-perfect assist.

That was not the only fiery incident in a fiercely-contested practice match at Bayern on Tuesday afternoon. After a total of three days off, the senior players were buzzing with energy and determination on their return to the training ground. With the club's sizeable contingent of international players still absent, the session once again combined the first and second team squads.

Robben fit again

Robben led the way in terms of effort and commitment. The superstar was unable to report for duty with the Netherlands national team due to a sprain, and spent the whole of last week on a tailored individual recovery programme. The 27-year-old was back with the rest of his team-mates on Tuesday, and is now rated a near-certainty for Saturday's Bundesliga fixture at home to bottom club Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Of the first-team squad, Robben was joined only by Andreas Ottl, Diego Contento, Brazilian pair Breno and Luiz Gustavo, and goalkeepers Thomas Kraft, Jörg Butt and Rouven Sattelmeier. With a view to assembling as many as possible of the squad for the next workout, coach Louis van Gaal has set the start time for Wednesday training at 6 pm. From Thursday onwards, the stars will commence intensive preparations for the weekend clash with the struggling Lower Rhine outfit.

Contento still has it...but hes no Coentrao.

More than anyone from our young unestablished players (Breno, Contento, Alaba, Ekici)...Contento is top of my list right now, too bad his position is one that is probably one of the most CONTESTED positions world wide and one of the easiest positions to blame for defensive mistakes in todays game.
