Robben scores but takes knock

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Nov 14, 2016 11:25 am

Arjen Robben is the third Bayern pro after Kingsley Coman and Arturo Vidal to sustain a knock during the international break. The Elftal captain was replaced at half-time in the Netherlands' 3-1 victory away to Luxembourg on Sunday evening. It was a precautionary measure due to slight thigh problems, declared Robben after the final whistle: "Perhaps an awkward movement provoked it. I hope it's not serious." After a year on the sidelines the winger made his comeback for the Netherlands on Sunday and scored the opener at Josy-Barthel-Stadion after the half-hour.

The Dutchmen struggled against Luxembourg for long spells. Maxime Chanot levelled the scores from the spot with the half-time whistle imminent. The Oranje had to wait for two-goal Memphis Depay to come to the rescue in the second half. The Dutch lie second in Group A after their second victory in four matches, ahead of Sweden who are level on points, three points short of France.

Sanches on as a sub

Renato Sanches played only five minutes in Portugal's 4-1 victory over Latvia in Faro. The FCB midfielder came on after 86 minutes. Two-goal Cristiano Ronaldo, William and Bruno Alves scored for the Portuguese. Neither Ronaldo's missed penalty on the hour nor Arturs Zjuzins's leveller midway through the second half knocked the hosts out of their stride. The result means Portugal lie second in Group B on nine points, three short of table-toppers Switzerland.
