Philipp Lahm announces end of playing career

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Feb 08, 2017 12:35 am

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm has announced he will retire as a player at the end of the current campaign. "I'm going to stop playing football at the end of the season," the FC Bayern  youth product confirmed following his team's 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg in Tuesday evening's DFB Cup Round of 16 tie.

"More than a year ago I started checking and questioning myself from day to day and week to week. I'm certain I'll maintain peak form through to the end of the season. I can manage that until the end of the campaign, but not beyond it," the Munich-born player continued.

With regard to a potential future in the FC Bayern management team the 33-year-old, whose contract is scheduled to expire on 30 June 2018, commented: “There were talks, and in the end I decided it's not the right time for me to take up a new position at FC Bayern.”

Xabi will be our captain next season... we all know it, deal with it.

With lahm statement expect 20millions extra asked for any right defender Bayern will try no buy. Bad money management from the club. Or will be Kimmich in that position .

Thanks for everything Captain . Go for the Treble this year

So the story is about to end...that Bavarian blooded kid we loaned to Stuttgart. Came back to build a career as a youngster in a big team, just to end it as the best RB in history of football.

Just like he did with the national team, he decided to end it all while he's on top. He couldn't see himself anywhere other than Bayern. To end your career while you're on top in the place where you started, for that you Philipp Lahm earned every bit of respect the world of football and especially us fans have for you.
I can only respect this decision with a tear in my eye when I'm watching your last match with us.

And for every second you ran on the field, from the bottom of my heart, thank you Kapitän.
My blood is RED
My team is RED
It's Bayern München till I'm DEAD

It's been an honor to support this man for the last 15 years or so.

One of the first legends that my generation, having seen him in his prime and the gap between him and his peers, will truly be able to appreciate. Always a class act, and the greatest defender, fullback or center back, that I have ever seen.

It's sad, but the decision is his to make. What a career. =D>

Like Pep once said...."He is the wisest player I have ever worked with". A true legend of the game, many thanks for the remarkable moments he has given Bayern and the national team. His leadership, sportsmanship, and talents will not only be missed at this great club but the footballing world as a whole. Bagging a treble will be the perfect farewell for him and the club
