Müller: That doesn’t happen every day

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Mar 24, 2018 3:10 pm

Thomas Müller has tucked away plenty of goals from inside the penalty area, with volleys, from tight angles, with his head, his chest and from back-heels. But even for the prolific Bayern man, a 20-yard belter into the top corner rates as unusual. “It was very nice. It’s not every day that I score from outside the box with such apparent ease,” said Müller following a dream goal to level the scores at 1-1.

The 28-year-old revealed that he had tried a couple of long-range efforts in the pre-match warm-up. “It was actually pretty good but a little too low. In the match it worked out superbly.” The thunderbolt drive did indeed rocket into the back of the Spanish net. “It was a great goal and a top-class shot. Thomas Müller always scores important goals,” enthused Germany boss Joachim Löw.

'Basically much too good'

“Nope,” grinned midfielder Toni Kroos, “that was no typical Müller goal. It was basically much too good. But he did well.” Müller also stood out as the player most willing to resist the visitors’ clear dominance in the first half-hour, although the next Thomas Show in Germany colours will not occur for a little while now as Löw has decided to rest the Munich hitman for the world champions’ meeting with Brazil on Tuesday.

Even in his absence, Müller believes Germany can extend their unbeaten run to 23 matches and equal their own record set more than 37 years ago under coach Jupp Derwall: “There’s a very high probability. I don’t think we’ll lose on Tuesday. This is a superb group.”
