Lahm named honorary Germany captain

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Dec 08, 2017 5:55 pm

Former Bayern pro Philipp Lahm has beeen named honorary Germany captain by the DFB (German FA) convention in Frankfurt. The 34-year-old, who captained Germany when they won the World Cup in 2014, is the sixth honorary captain in the history of the German FA, joining an elite group featuring Fritz Walter, Uwe Seeler, Franz Beckenbauer, Lothar Matthäus and Jürgen Klinsmann. "We've always made it to the semi-finals or the final in European championships and World Cups since 2006. Perhaps one player represents a golden generation and certainly the World Cup winning team from 2014: Philipp Lahm," commented DFB President Reinhard Grindel. Lahm has made 113 appearances for Germany, crowning his international career in his last one, the 1-0 victory over Argentina after extra time in the 2014 World Cup final. Lahm hung up his boots last summer after winning his eighth German championship title.
