Heynckes: It's proof we're on the up

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Feb 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Bayern kept up the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Dortmund with a straightforward 2-0 victory over Kaiserslautern on Saturday. "It's proof of our upward trend," said boss Jupp Heynckes, praising his men for their watertight defending after Manuel Neuer and Co "shut out the opposition" for the second game in a row. Captain Philipp Lahm was equally happy: "We came out and went for it straight away."

Reaction to Bayern v Kaiserslautern:

Jupp Heynckes: "It's proof of our upward trend. It was a fully merited win, and we played very good football at times. It wasn't easy in the first half, because Kaiserslautern defended extremely well, but we created some gilt-edged chances after the break. We could have won by a lot more. I'm specially pleased with the way we defended. We've kept another clean sheet and basically shut out the opposition. I'm delighted about that."

Philipp Lahm: "We came out and went for it straight away. That always makes it hard for our opponents, especially when we're here at home. Once you're 2-0 up, it's important you finish with a clear sheet. Overall, it was OK and we did what we had to do. The aim now is to keep playing just as well as that."

Mario Gomez: "The first half was very good up until the last five minutes. Winning was the important thing. We have to keep it up now. Obviously, we have to hope Dortmund slip up."

Marco Kurz (Kaiserslautern coach): "We were nervous right from the start. The early goal wrecked it for us, and you saw the effect it had on my team. We kept it tight in defence, but we lacked determination up front. In the second half, our keeper Trapp prevented us losing by more. Overall, we didn't stand a chance against Bayern's extra class."

Kevin Trapp (Kaiserslautern keeper): "We knew it wouldn't be easy, but we still came here hoping for a result, because we've already shown what we can do away to Dortmund and Schalke. At the end of the day, Bayern deserved to win."
