Guard of honour for Heynckes

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu May 17, 2018 11:45 am

A great farewell for a great coach. On Thursday Jupp Heynckes took charge of his final FC Bayern training session at Säbener Straße before calling time on his career after Saturday’s DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt. At the end of the session, the FCB staff gave the 73-year-old a guard of honour, applauded him for his amazing career and bid farewell with flowers and best wishes before he sets off for Berlin.

Break for Müller

Besides Arturo Vidal and Jerome Boateng, Thomas Müller was also absent from training. The Germany international is suffering from a stomach bug. Arjen Robben and Joshua Kimmich were also not present but instead training in the performance centre. On the plus side, Juan Bernat and Corentin Tolisso both returned.

Wagner announces international retirement

After not being called up for Germany’s World Cup squad in Russia, FCB striker Sandro Wagner has announced his retirement from the national team. “I hereby announce my retirement from the Germany national team,” the 30-year-old stated to publication Bild. The 2017 Confederations Cup winner was left out of Joachim Löw’s preliminary 27-man-squad on Tuesday. “I’d be lying if I said I’m not disappointed. The World Cup would’ve been amazing,” the eight-time Germany international added. “I wish my boys all the best in Russia and hope they come back world champions.”
