Goal-hungry Usami tears into Academy side

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Jan 08, 2012 5:20 pm

In the last test of the Doha training camp, an FCB XI defeated an ASPIRE Academy U-19 team 5-0 in a 30-minutes-each-way match on Sunday afternoon, maintaining Bayern's perfect record in three winter friendlies so far. For the final run-out prior to Monday morning's departure for Delhi, Jupp Heynckes fielded a line-up of players who either came on as late subs or did not feature at all in the 2-1 win over Al Ahly the previous day.

That meant a start for Franck Ribéry, who is suspended for the Bundesliga restart fixture away to Gladbach and sat out Saturday's prestige friendly against the men from Cairo as a result. "He's been outstanding in training this week. He has unbelievable class. He's a fixture in the team," Heynckes earlier told the daily news conference at the team hotel. Mario Gomez, who picked up a minor toe injury after just 11 minutes of the Al Ahly clash and was substituted as a precaution, covered the first 45 minutes of the meeting with the Academy side.

In the match on one of the Academy's superb training pitches, Bayern controlled the pace and flow against the elite youth side, but failed to turn their dominance into goals in the first 30-minute period, as the ASPIRE hopefuls bravely kept their illustrious opponents at bay. Not that FCB were short of chances: Nils Petersen missed twice when well-placed (8, 17), with Ribéry (11), Gomez (18) and Danijel Pranjic (26) all spurning presentable openings.

After the break, Takashi Usami revelled in his best half of football since arriving at the club, scoring all five of his team's goals on 38, 41, 43, 48 and 57 minutes. It was a tremendous display by the diminutive Japanese starlet, who had earlier said: "I feel really good about being in Munich, although I'd be delighted at a little more playing time." The five-star showing on Sunday will have done his chances no harm at all.

Another young hopeful, Munich reserve Emre Can, also made his senior FCB debut as a 43rd-minute replacement for Gomez. The German-born Turk was invited to taste the first-team air at the Doha training camp this week.

A wrong statement made by the Bayern website Emre Can is a Turk-born German and not a German-born Turk. He has decided to represent Germany and Bayern in the future. Hope this gets corrected, very disappointed.

It is right. He was born in Germany, in Frankfurt am Main to be precise.

He is not a Turk, he has decided to represent Germany. He is as much a German as Muller or Schweini

He has a Turkish citizenship. He is as German as Hamit Altintop who was also born in Germany and lived almost all his life in Germany, but you probably call him a Turk or a German-Turk anyway. It's the same with Emre Can, his roots aren't solely German like Mueller and Schweinsteiger.

I agree though I think its disrespectful for a player who captained the U-17 German team to World cup and also that he would like to be called German as he has decided to represent Germany
