Franck Ribéry extends stay with FC Bayern

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Nov 27, 2016 11:30 am

Franck Ribéry (33) has agreed a contract extension with FC Bayern through 30 June 2018.

"Six German championship titles, five cup triumphs, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Supercup: FC Bayern's biggest triumphs in the last few years are closely linked with Franck Ribéry. He's both a key player and a crowd-pleaser, so we're happy we've extended the contract with Franck by another year," declared FC Bayern München AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"I'm very happy to play for FC Bayern for another year," said Franck Ribéry. "This great club and the city have become my home, both in terms of sport and in private. I'm looking forward to many more beautiful moments together with the FC Bayern fans, and I want to play my part in the team's success in the next one and a half years.

Franck Ribéry has been playing for Bayern since the 2007/08 season, making 333 appearances in competitive fixtures for the German record champions so far. The winger has scored 108 and set up another 164 goals, including Arjen Robben's match-winner in the 2013 Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. Ribéry was named European Footballer of the Year in the same year.

I low Ribsy but we shouldn't have renewed. We need a new WC for the Lw.

Yes, because we are some un-gratitude club and let go of our players when they go 30+.

On top of it - he can still deliver on the biggest on stages. Maybe not for 90 minutes.

Dude he has already had two season in which he has barely contributed. Can he actually perform at the biggest stage? Robbery are blocking the spot we should be giving to a star signing, that's the sad truth :-/

He may move centrally... do you guys remember the rebirth of Brazilian maestro Ze Roberto?

He'll retire in 2018 and take a coaching job with the youth... that story sounds believable. He'll retire at Bayern.

Do you want me to start posting examples of important or youth products who became Bayern players who extended their contracts just because this is Bayern aka the MIA SAN MIA family? First of all - Badstuber. If Badstuber's name was something else with all of the injuries - he would be GONE seasons ago.

Shame on you really, wanting Ribery out. Its not like he has one leg, he is more than capable to deliver if fit.

I'm with punk. It's been kind of annoying seeing Ribs talk trash when he's been injured for pretty much two years straight.

It's not Ribery by himself per se. I'd be happy with Alexis + Ribery or Alexis + Costa, just not Costa + Ribery.

Ribery is still one of our best players when fit. Robben and Ribery are still better than our two other options for the wings.
