FCB poised to set new record

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Jan 26, 2017 7:05 pm

On Saturday FC Bayern and Werder Bremen cross swords for the 102nd time in the Bundesliga with the Bavarians on 50 victories so far. The German record champions have won all of their last 12 matches against the men from the north. Another victory would mean a new record for Munich as no Bundesliga side has ever won as many consecutive matches against the same opponents. fcbayern.com has delved into the facts and figures prior to the clash.

Clash of opposites

FC Bayern boast 50.3 percent tackles won, a best-mark in the Bundesliga. Besides this, they have scored over 40 goals, more than any other club. Bremen's tally is 47.3 percent tackles won, which makes them the bottom club in this regard. Werder have conceded 36 goals so far this term, more than any other Bundesliga side. The German record champions have conceded only ten goals so far, another best-mark for FC Bayern.

Top strikers face off

Robert Lewandowski boasts 135 Bundesliga goals. The Poland captain is second only to Bremen's Claudio Pizarro on 190 goals in the all-time scorer rankings for non-German players. However, the former FCB striker has not scored in ten matches or for 707 minutes, the longest goal drought since the Peruvian joined Werder. Lewandowski on the other hand scored a brace last weekend. The 28-year-old is Bremen's bogey striker, netting no fewer than ten times in his last seven Bundesliga encounters with Werder.

Best-mark for Werder's attacking unit

Alexander Nouri's troops are remarkably consistent up front, Pizarro's goal-drought notwithstanding. Werder have scored at least one goal in all of their last 16 Bundesliga matches, a top mark. The last time Bremen failed to score was on Matchday 1 at the Allianz Arena.

Most goals in Bundesliga history

Bayern and Bremen top the all-time Bundesliga table and are known for their attacking football. The German record champions are the only team to surpass the 3,000-goal milestone so far. Werder are on 2,997 goals and are likely to be the second team to achieve this mark. However, Werder have not scored against Bayern for more than two and a half years. The last time Bremen found the net against FCB was on 26 April 2014, Aaron Hunt being the scorer. Bayern have scored 28 goals and conceded not a single one in the 594 minutes played since.

Stegemann in charge

Sascha Stegemann will be the man in the middle on Saturday. The 33-year-old civil servant takes charge of his third game involving the Reds this term. He previously oversaw the 5-0 home victory over VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 14 and the 3-1 win over FC Augsburg in the DFB Cup second round. His assistants will be Christian Fischer and Sören Storks, with Frank Willenborg acting as fourth official.

Is it just me or is this a small difference considering they're top and bottom of the statistics?
