FC Bayern and GPS extend partnership

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu May 11, 2017 9:00 am

FC Bayern Munich today announced the extension of its partnership with U.S. soccer academy Global Premier Soccer (GPS).

The partnership, which began in 2014, aims to grow the level of the game in North America, bringing the FC Bayern coaching philosophy and curriculum to now over 85,000 children and 6,000 coaches into 101 soccer clubs in over 22 states.

The extended partnership will see FC Bayern coaches double their presence in in the U.S. exchanging best practices, providing curriculum and methodology support, conducting Player Identification programming and a soon to be introduced coaching certification. The alliance will also include the GPS FC Bayern National Team program which pulls the best talent at various age groups to compete in tournaments both at home and abroad.

FC Bayern Munich Youth Academy and GPS coaches will continue to remain in constant communication. Together they will continue to develop innovative models and opportunities to ensure talented young players have a pathway in soccer.

“This partnership has gone from strength to strength,” commented FC Bayern Munich President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “We set out to work at a grassroots level with GPS to grow soccer in the U.S. and I’m pleased to say that we’ve not only seen substantial growth in the program but we’ve also been able to help develop young players with our philosophy,” he added.

CEO of GPS, Joseph Bradley said: "FC Bayern’s Youth Academy has produced a number of world-class players. The coaching education and opportunities for our kids have been incredible and through our innovative player identification programming we have, so far, identified eight young players who have been to Germany to train with the FC Bayern youth teams.”

While the coaching education and player curriculum is the foundation of this alliance, FC Bayern and GPS believe in creating chances for the participants to compete in a professional setting such as the FC Bayern Youth Cup tournament to help create a well-rounded player.

Ten GPS players from the 2001/2002 age group have been selected on this fully funded trip to represent the U.S. in the Youth Cup at the Allianz Arena on May 21. More than 10,000 players from around the world took part in qualifying tournaments for a chance to be part of the teams who will represent their countries in Munich.
